Pros: Even though it's "reduced fat" (i.e. fake) DQ's ice cream is good schtuff
Cons: limited food menu, smaller stores have less variety
The Bottom Line: Although fast food generally stinks (and DQ is no exception), Dairy Queen's desserts and ice cream make it worth a visit.

| Naughtius's Full Review: Dairy Queen |
A new DQ was just completed in our thriving metropolis (about 5,000 people, give or take), and like every other schmoe in town, I thought I'd go check out the place. I'd been a fan of the DQ near my work when I lived in another state some three years ago, but as most of you know, I have a less than flattering opinion of fast food in general.
Besides, my wife likes the Nerds Blizzard...
This Dairy Queen was of the smaller variety. It has both dine in and take out facilities, but has very limited space, and tends to hold no more than 7 or 8 staff members at a time. One thing I quickly found out: along with the reduction in size was a reduction of menu items! They had very few "hot" items on the menu, and seemed to lean more towards the dessert crowd in their selections. We also noticed (to our dismay) that Nerds were no longer included as a mix-in for their Blizzards (but one helpful employee said that if we'd bring in some, she's mix them in for us. bless her.). In fact, I noticed there were many items not included at our store, readily available at another DQ not 30 minutes away.
But let's get into the meat of this thing, shall we? Dairy Queen's claim to fame is their ice cream, a reduced fat product. It's smooth, creamy, and fantastic. Not as good as homemade, mind you. Also, not as good as the stuff you pay for with your life savings or that they mix together on the stone slabs, but still, being cheap and ranking in the top 10 has its advantages. The one good thing about chain restaurants is that the quality and flavor of the product they serve tends to be homogenous, wherever you may be. In DQ's case, this is a bonus.
I also like the convenience of their product. If you like the Dilly Bar (and who doesn't?), buying one or a six-pack is always an option. Same with all of their ready made products. You can also order ice cream cakes, at a much reduced price from Baskin-Robbins.
Yes, DQ's not perfect. Low selection, small, cramped eating spaces in the smaller stores. The quality of service at our store is excellent. This is probably since it's new and is manned by a group of cheerful high school students...
Simply put, DQ gets three stars, high ratings on my fast food scale. Go for the ice cream, not the food.
