I never knew what a "shmear" was until I started frequenting Einstein Bros. Bagels about a year ago. In fact, until my nephew-in-law, Mike, started working as a manager at one of the locations in Columbus, Ohio, I didn't really know much about bagels at all. I live in Chillicothe, Ohio, a smaller city about 60 miles south of Columbus and the only bagels I ever saw were in the frozen food or bread section of Kroger and Big Bear stores. Living in a smaller community has advantages, but great food is not necessarily one of them.
Now I am smitten with bagels and have them as often as I can get to Einstein Bros. Bagels. I love their bagels, whether I am enjoying a chocolate chip bagel with a delicious cup of coffee for breakfast or an onion bagel with a shmear of vegetable cream cheese for lunch.
This restaurant is a favorite for me and my co-workers. You can easily get in, order, eat and get out within a lunch hour, with plenty of time left over to chat or read your daily newspaper. During periods of nice weather, I like to enjoy my bagels at the tables provided outside the restaurant.
With 18 different types of bagels and 11 different shmears, the combinations are never ending. Add one of their great soups or salads and you have a complete dinner. The salads are always fresh and filling. The Asian Chicken Salad is my personal favorite. My vegetarian co-workers love to eat here because they can find so many selections to fit their diets and the non-vegetarians can always add turkey or other meat choices to their bagels to create tasty sandwiches. Anyone can find a delicious and satisfying meal at Einstein's, trust me!
I like the fact that your meal is prepared right before your eyes while you watch. You choose what you want as you are standing in front of the deli-style display case, so you know the items are fresh.
They also have a "featured coffee" each day along with the regular coffee choices and assorted beverages. Did I mention the cookies and other baked goods? I really think you could eat at Einstein Bros. Bagels every day and never tire of the many and varied selections.
With my nephew-in-law providing inside information, I am assured that all the bagels are freshly baked and that all the other dishes are just as fresh. I never worry about the cleanliness at Einstein Bros. Bagels because, again, my nephew-in-law tells me that they have a great reputation for health and safety issues.
So, if any of the Einstein Bros. Bagels executives are perusing the Epinions.com site and happen to see this review, PLEASE think about opening a restaurant in Chillicothe, Ohio. I need you!!!!!!
