Pros: The Service.
Cons: The food.
About half way between the US Bankruptcy Court and the Suffolk County Probate and Family Court is an entertaining restaurant on Friend Street, Boston, MA Hooters. I have gone to lunch with a few of my clients and friends at this entertaining restaurant. Nothing takes your mind off of divorce or bankruptcy like a good lunch! Since my clients (well the male clients anyway) seem to really enjoy a lunch at Hooters, I have tried to determine just why it is that we men love Hooters.
Fun and Games
I still remember my first visit to Hooters. I won a free lunch to come back! After a tasty lunch, I tried a simple contest they had set up; a hole in one golf set up. All I had to do was sink a golf ball into the hole in a single putt. I did it too!, and I was rewarded with a free lunch at Hooters. Did I go back? Of course! Hooters also is chock full of wide screen Televisions tuned to a variety of sporting events so anywhere you sit you can watch a game. Ironically, I have seldom seen anyone paying much attention to the televisions.
The decor is pretty basic, plain tables that seat two or three or picnic style tables for larger parties are all around, and a large bar is along the back of the restaurant. You can sit at the bar, or whereever you like, you don't need to wait to be seated. This is more a place for friends or casual meetings, I wouldn't suggest it for a formal business meeting, a romantic date or a family meal.
Food - Steak, Pork and Chicken Breasts and Legs
Alright, I'll admit that Hooters isn't five star cuisine, but it is good tasty bar room style food. However, they have a hearty range of appetizers ranging from good for you soups to heart stopping nachos grande and quesadillas. I have had both of the later, and they are delicious, although I would not recommend eating them often.
The main entrees consist of pub style sandwiches, from pulled bbq pork, chicken breast, philly steak and the like. You can also get fish. Most meals come with curly fries. I'm not fond of the curly fries, but the breasts and pork are quite good. You can even get a simple hot dog or chili dog if you'd like. Myself, I have had the smothered chicken breast, the BBQ pork, the philly steak and the quesadillas and I have enjoyed them. Even their plain old hamburgers or cheeseburgers are pretty tasty. You get a small side of beans or potato salad, which aren't that great to be honest.
Hooters also has lots of beer, but not a huge variety. They also have soft drinks and ice tea as well.
Desserts - Pies and Cheesecake
I don't usually get dessert because I don't like to eat a lot at lunch, but I have had the key lime pie. It is good, but doesn't really taste any better than a store bought pie.
Gifts and Calendars
The Hooters in Boston also has a gift shop where you can buy a variety of T-Shirts, memorabilia or a large Calendar full of photographs of the waitresses of Hooters. I got one once, and one of the waitresses who was featured inside signed it for me.
Considering that Hooters is in downtown Boston, the prices are average, although I have found better food in other pubs at the same price. A typical meal will cost about 8-15 bucks depending on if you get an appetizer or dessert with your meal. The calendar is 20.00.
Well then, the food is good, but not great, the atmosphere is that of a generic sports bar, the beer selection isn't wide, so why do men love Hooters? I think it is the final element of Hooters that makes it such a popular place for lunch.
The waitresses of Hooters always seem happy, and come to the table often to see if you need anything. Sometimes, if it isn't too busy, a waitress will even sit down at your table and chat for a while. More than one waitress will usually come by your table to ask if there is anything you need, and I have yet to have an ice tea go empty before being asked for a refill. The waitresses behavior is usually more flirtatious than most restaurants. Of course the fact that they are all rather pretty and wearing orange hotpants and small T-shirts doesn't hurt. I think that is why men love Hooters.
We love Hooters because of the pretty waitresses in scant outfits. The food is good and it's kind of a fun place for lunch. You can't take it all too seriously really, it's harmless fun. The food, atmosphere, selections and overall decor of Hooters are average, it is the waitresses and the service being excellent that bring Hooters up to above average.
