| krisandlon's Full Review: IHOP |
My mom and I decided a few months ago to take all four of my kids to IHOP for breakfast one day since the kids were off school. We had to wait about 10 minutes for a table for all six of us even though there were plenty of tables and booths open that could have accomodated us. We sat down and ordered our food and waited. Half of our food came and the waitress still never brought our drinks. She finally brought our drinks and realized that she "forgot" to place the order for my son's food. She said that it was coming right up since he just ordered their Mickey Mouse pancakes. That took another 15 minutes. By the time she brought his food we were all almost done eating and we had given him some of our food while he was waiting. We asked for refills on our drinks which we never got. When we did get the check we noticed that she put a 15% gratituty already on the bill since there were 6 of us. I do think that some places should charge a gratituty since there are some big groups, but when four of them are children I don't agree with that. That in our opinion was why we had some awful service. She didn't care about the tip since she thought that she was going to get it anyways since it was added into the bill. We went up to pay for our check and complained about the service. The manager wasn't too eager to help us out and just said that he was sorry. I didn't let it end there. I told him I wanted that 15% off our bill and we would leave our own tip. We left $2 only. The service was just awful. We filled out a complaint card also and sent that in letting them know what we thought about our service. I got a letter in return saying that they were extremely sorry about what happened and I would be receiving a free meal coupon in the mail shortly afterward. I never have to this day received that. The food there is very good and you do get your money's worth, but I would never take the four kids with my husband and I back again. I don't believe that with four kids and their small children's portions that the waitress deserves the 15% since she knows that she is going to get it ahead of time and doesn't wait on the tables as she/he should.
My husband and I have been back since with coupons that I have gotten out of the paper for buy one meal get one free, but I don't think that it is a family restaurant as we as a family have to pay for our service no matter what we think of it.
Food: The food is very good and well worth the money that you have to pay. Many of the things on the menu come with lots of extras that make your breakfast well worth it and I do leave there full and still have some food left on my plate.
Service: As I have said before the service is awful if you go in there with a party of 6 or more since the waiters or waitresses know that they are going to get their 15% no matter what since it is added into the bill. The service has always been good though when my husband and I go in alone.
