| slagathor's Full Review: J. Alexander's Corporation |
Others have talked on the great tasting food J Alexanders serves. Its true. Everything they make it made from scratch. They have no house dressing on their salads because all of them are made from scratch. But this is for everything on the menu. And you can taste it.
But what separates J Alexanders apart from the Applebees and so forth is the service. This place knows how to treat you well and they "tag-team" your table rather than having one person do everything and possibly get behind and not meet your expectations. For example, if you have an empty plate on the table, thats not the responsibility of your server to clear it. The first employee who walks past your table and notices it -- whether they are servers, waiters, or management, will do the job. When your glass is half full, a full glass is promptly placed next to it.
Despite the great service, they never bother you. They unassumingly go about their business yet take care of you completely. Like grabbing the empty plate. You'll be talking to your buddies and not even realize someone whizzed by you and grabbed the empty plate to clear room for you. But they'll never take a plate with food on it without asking or unless its obvious you are finished with it.
Also, if you want something special done to your entree, perhaps you want the smashed potatoes instead of french fries with your burger, they'll accomodate it. You definitely feel like they want to make you happy and want to come back again when its time to choose a restaurant to go to.
A lot of restaurants serve great food, but not very many treat the customer like they are number one. If you aren't happy with something, J Alexanders will make it right. Period. If your steak isnt exactly how you like it, theyll get it right and in many cases not charge you for it because of the inconvenience.
Sometimes waiting to get a table on the weekends can be a pain but I consider anything under 40 minutes to be completely worth it. I go quite often during lunch about 2-3pm, after the noon crowd clears out, and theres plenty of empty booths to snuggle in and take your time.
My favorite dish? The chips and salsa. Real salsa made from scratch. The best anywhere.
