Pros: Reasonably priced, tasted good. Facilities are clean and a buffet is available
Cons: This is the first decent KFC meal I've had in 21 years!
I was not a Kentucky Fried Chicken fan, I must admit. On the few occasions that I'd given it a try, in the last 20 years, I had been disappointed. Greasy. Tasteless. I couldn't understand why it stayed so popular with such a large segment of the population. I'd go by and see cars lined up in the drive-thru and feel sorry for them for eating from there.
The one in Port St. John, FL, was clean and had a buffet; my husband and daughter used to like it so I'd have a bbq chicken sandwich while they ate the buffet. The grease glistened on half the stuff on the buffet, artery clogging (I'd joke with my husband), a heart attack waiting to happen.
I'd be disappointed in the bbq sandwich, I guess they just stewed up the leftover chicken in bbq sauce as sometimes it was like chewing cardboard or hard like beef jerky.
When we moved to SC, they had just brought the Snackers. And the local KFC moved to a new location, BRAND NEW, so we thought we'd give the Snacker a try. Another disappointment, the meat was chewy as though it was gristly (which I don't think it was but the texture was awful)and the biscuit was hard as if it had been microwaved too long.
So, for us, KFC was a miss.
Until tonight! Finally they got something right. I wanted something different for dinner and something in my head said KFC. I figured, well, hubby would like it, so stopped in the drive-thru and ordered an extra crispy bucket of white meat chicken, and got mashed potatoes and gravy, and baked beans.
The chicken was EXCELLENT. Well-cooked but juicy, VERY tasty. Not overly greasy. My hubby enjoyed the beans and mash sides too, I just had the chicken but I have to say KFC redeemed itself on this meal.
I was very impressed.
A reasonably priced meal, satisfied eaters and 4 pieces of leftover chicken in the fridge.
