Pros: It can be good
Cons: More likely to be bad. Very bad.
KFC. Kentucky Fried Chicken. I have been eating at this place with the big red and white bucket ever since I can remember. I have had some good times and I have had some bad. Every time you go to KFC, you are gambling. You never know what you're going to get.
First of all if you are not a fan of grease, grease, and wait, more grease, than just don't bother with KFC. If you looked up "fast food" in the dictionary, you'd open up the page and there'd be a greasy chicken leg in the book. But if you eat here than you don't care about that. If you're looking for good food cheap than maybe KFC is the place...or maybe not??
In reality KFC is a pricier place for fast food. If you get a bucket of chicken and sides (you can't have chicken without sides, and probably more than one) the bill will quickly hit $30. It's a fact of life. Big families feel it more.
So I rarely get the bucket, but mostly because its touch and go with the bone chicken here. I hate dark meat, so don't even ask me about that. The white meat can be very good here, though, sometimes you'll get a nice bucket with lots of meat. Other times you'll wonder what part of the chicken they fried as you find out you're holding a crunchy fried veiny, bony mess.
So I graduated to boneless chicken. Like I said, when its good it is the best. The strips are great at their peak. They used to have honey bbq strips that owned my soul, but they discontinued them (though there is now boneless honey bbq wings, not as good). There is also the popcorn chicken, delicious little delightful crunchy balls, but even the biggest size is just too small. They have chicken sandwhiches too, but aside from the bbq sandwich its mostly just variations of chicken with a flop of lettuce and mayo. Not too hot. The new thing is the snacker, a small sandwich of this sort. Pure vile! The chicken is like rubber, but it is .99 cents only. But who wants it for free?
The sides are the best, but there aren't many. The biscuits are buttery and great. You can't beat them (well Church's are pretty good, as are Popeye's). There is mashed potatoes, and even though they are pretty bland I love the taste. The Colonel said it tasted like wallpaper paste, and even though I kind of agree I can't get enough. Especially with the thick dark gravy. It is a nice match made in heaven. Next are the potatoe wedges, their version of fries. The big ones are too bland, but the smaller crunchy ones are so delicious. After that you basically have coleslaw (meh) and some corn.
The inside of the restaurants are usually pretty dingy, so I never eat in. If you eat in the car, all the grease and gravy will permeate everything (your clothes, the seats) no matter how many napkins you have. Do yourself a favor and take it inside.
Like I said, KFC is a mixed bag. They just aren't consistent on the quality of the food. I think the bad outweighs the good, because the bad are memorable. Like the time I bit into a bone in the boneless bbq sandwich (haven't ordered one since) or the buglike thing with legs I found once hidden in a piece of lettuce. If you go here you are taking a risk. On the one hand you might have some really good fast food. On the other, you might have destroyed your whole night.
