Pros: Good tasty "......" chicken
Cons: ".... ....." greasy chicken
The Bottom Line: The Colonel's concept of, "Sunday dinner, every day of the week", is still a good one. Its a quick purchase at a reasonable price and always cooked as expected.

......good, tasty, and maybe even greasy fried chicken.
It's my guess that chicken is served on more tables in the US than any other meat. I would also guess that the most popular way of being served is fried. I also suppose that most of the fried chicken recipes come from the south. With these totally unscientific assumptions I would say "what better place to get chicken than from a southern Colonel named Sanders". Sounds good enough for me.
I NEVER TASTED the STUFF
The fact is, in all my years, I never had a piece of the Colonel's chicken until I met a fellow from England just three years ago through correspondence about my son and his band that was touring very successfully in Europe.
On occasion we spoke of food. He always brought up KFC. I still didn't try the stuff until he came over and visited us here in New York for a week. One night the two of us took a five minute ride to a KFC nearby my home and purchased a bucket and some sides. Now I'm hooked!!!
I have read many negative reviews about how greasy the stuff is. I imagine, and it can be seen in the weight gain of many peoples of the world, that people don't care. I'm included in this "large" group. They want their satisfaction and they want it now. I suppose this certainly comes through when you see that, even with all the negative press, KFC is the number one chicken recipe restaurant with over 11,000 eateries in 80 countries around the world!!
KFC is actually owned by a parent company, Yum! Brands Inc, that also has Taco Bell, Long John Silvers, and Pizza Hut under its belt, and in its belly of business. Puns intended. You may even see some of these places partnered under one roof.
The COLONEL
This guy was something else. He dabbled in many, many different jobs in his life time. It seems that food was always part of his life. As a seven year old he helped cook around his home. Over the years, between other jobs, he went back to cooking and kept on perfecting his recipe. Years later he started serving chicken dinners at his place. It quickly outgrew that small dining room and he started serving at a hotel across the street. Business kept growing and finally he sold it all when an interstate was going to bypass the location. A few years later he started peddling his recipe across the nation and started a franchise making five cents on every chicken sold using his recipes.
It is noted that Colonel Sanders invented the "home meal replacement", that is, a complete meal to take home. Though the name didn't stick, as far as I am aware, he called it "Sunday Dinner, Seven Days a Week".
I read that in 1935 Governor Ruby Laffoon gave Mr Sanders the title of Kentucky Colonel because of his culinary contributions to the state. So this guy is a Colonel or rather was. He is gone but his recipes live on and on and on and......
MY KFC
I haven't been to any other KFC but the one in my neighboring town. Its a small Striped red and white roofed place with about ten tables and booths. The Colonel's face is everywhere. The floor was fairly clean. Some fried chicken crumbs are around. The tables are kept clean and the decor is quite simple.
Most of the business is take out. I mean tons of chicken seem to walk out the doors. There always seems to be a line, yet, it moves quickly.
The staff behind the register are VERY friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. They know their chicken and are quick to describe or explain any details as needed. You order, pay, and then are given a ticket with your pick up number.
The food is prepared in the back area and put onto racks that separate the kitchen from the sales area. The help then packages everything from the front where you can see them put in the product.
I like that. On many occasions I have seen people kind of "pick their piece" of chicken. "No, No, not that one ,the bigger one between the two legs on the second shelf". Ha, I just reread this review and that last sentence came out a bit different than how intended. I'll keep it there anyway. I would say that every five or so people would look to choose.
Drinks are paid for and you are given cups. You just fill them up yourself at a self serve fountain and be on your way. They serve Pepsi and Pepsi products.
CHOICES
Not much else than chicken is offered, however, you may get it in many different ways.
Lets start with the Original Recipe. This is the one that the Colonel himself put together. It's noted as having 11 herbs and spices. This is his mainstay offering. You can order pieces or up to buckets of it. For some this original wasn't quite crispy enough so they came up with another recipe simply called , extra crispy. That's the one I really like.
KFC has chicken in pot pies, crispy strips, popcorn pieces, Twisters and other ways. Most can be purchased by piece counts small and large. The biggest counts come in the well known Buckets.
Along with these chicken choices there are also home style sides of mashed potatoes and gravy, cole slaw, macaroni and cheese, potato wedges, and baked beans. I have had the mashed and wedges. Both are good. The coleslaw is too.
PURCHASING BIG or small
For three dollars KFC has a few choices. Two pieces of chicken, original or extra and a biscuit is one. Chunky Chicken Pot pie is another as is 4 whole wings and a biscuit.
The absolute bargain and a great value is the Twister and Potato Wedges. This is small chunks of fried white meat in a pita wrap with lettuce tomatoes and a flavorful white sauce. It is slightly spicy and the hot chicken with the cool lettuce and tomato is excellent!! I love the wedges. They have a very crisp thin outside with real potato flavor within. Add an extra dollar if you want a drink or a side dish.
They have other choices at a four dollar range. The three strip meal is one of them. This comes with cole slaw and a biscuit. The triple crunch sandwich looked wonderful but I have yet to taste one. A six winged meal with mashed potatoes and biscuit are also in this same four dollar price.
Different sized buckets of Popcorn Chicken are available. These are white meat chunks and are very good and, though fried, not greasy at all. Prices are $3.29 large and $6.99 party sized.
For those who like spicy chicken they now have a new "Ragun Cajun" deal. 7 pcs at $2.99 or 20 pcs. at $7.99. These are really good!
To be GREASY or not to be GREASY, that is the QUESTION
OK, lets start with "the chicken is fried". That alone means that the chicken will be "greasy", that is, in comparison to something cooked on a grill or broiled.
The fact is, I don't think the chicken is really greasy at all. The outside is crispy and very crispy. It is not greasy to the touch. When you bite into the chicken you get a very moist meat. It is well cooked, no red near the bones, and extremely flavorful. I love the stuff. For those who like very well cooked and dry chicken "Avoid KFC". Every piece I have ever had has the same consistent flavor and moister. The popcorn chicken is all white meat and has a thinner batter than the regular chicken. The same can be said for the strips.
THE END
All in all I say KFC is a very good value whether buying for one or two or for a crowd. The food is very fresh and the greasy chicken AIN'T.
