When I was a kid there was nothing better than
a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken except the
chicken Mom fried up herself. And you got perks
with the chicken from K.F.C. The perks were
slaw, mashed potatoes, gravy, biscuits, and if you
were lucky, hot buttered corn on the cob on a stick.
Back then, there was no choice but to get the
Original, as there was no such option as Extra Crispy.
If you got Extra Crispy chances where that the
chicken got burnt. Back then the slogan was
" We Do Chicken Right! " To this day I am certain
that the slogan was not thought up by a chicken.
K.F.C. had a level of service and a quality control
that could not be matched. The manager demanded
perfection of his employees and if they didn't give
it they moved on.
That was then, and this is now. Today K.F.C. offers
more, but you get less. The level of service and
quality control has gone South. I first found this to
be true when I purchased a 16 piece picnic bucket of
chicken from the K.F.C. in downtown Gatlinburg
about five years ago while on vacation. We had
planned to journey for a trip to the Great Smokey
Mountain National Park where we were going picnic
that afternoon. Now this is a common activity in this
tourist area especially. You can imagine my anger
when we got to the site which was over twenty miles
from the K.F.C.eager to dig in and begin our planned
picnic only to find that they had not included plastic
ware. If that wasn't bad enough they also didn't
include the first napkin. I was livid. We had to resort
to eating with whatever we could find and then wipe
our messy fingers off using our dirty laundry.
We were not returning to Gatlinburg so I could not
lodge my complaint with the Kentucky Fried Chicken
Outlet where we got our chicken and had no way to
retaliate other than to boycott all K.F.C.'s. Although
this didn't really seem fair was what I did until they
built a K.F.C./Taco Bell Restaurant Combination
close to our neighborhood.
Ironically, the first time I went to the K..F.C./Taco Bell
was when we were going to a drive-in movie (yes, they
are coming back!). We ordered our meal, grabbed the
sack we were offered at the drive through, and headed
on our way to the show which we were going to be a
little late. When we got settled, we pulled out the
chicken and started to dig in. No napkins! I could not
believe it! The lack of quality control of K.F.C. had
struck again. I got out of the car and went to the
concession stand and bought pop corn in order to get
napkins. When I returned I began eating only to discover
that not only had they left out our napkins and plastic
ware, but they had shorted me on my three piece dark
meat meal. Come on people, can't you count to three?
Quality Control rates a big fat ZERO! . Later,
I returned to the store and got the phone number that
you are supposed to call to report being short changed,
however when I called the number on numerous
occasions I never reached anyone to report the
incidence. So I turn to epinions.com
Thank goodness for epinions.com which gives people
the chance to tell it like it is.
The chicken is good, but I will not accept this level
of service. If they are cutting corners on service this
blatantly, just what else are they cutting corners on.
Washing their hands? Picking food up off the floor?
Who knows? If you don't think that good hand
washing technique is a problem in fast food
establishments you need to read my review on
Subway! What you don't know might not kill
you, but surely might make you sick.
I'll fry my own.
If you are in Gatlinburg and happen to go by the
K.F.C. in town on the right as you are going up to
the ski slopes tell them to read my epinion, but please
do yourself a favor and trade somewhere else.
thanks,
Greenspan
