You want to know who has the best hamburgers in the whole world? Me, too. While you are searching, have a sackful of Krystals! They may not be the best, but darned if they aren't close. Maybe I'm just waxing poetic, but these little gems have the best taste of any fast food item, barring Chick-fil-a of course, that I've had. And let me tell you, I've had a lot of fast food.

It could be that I remember these so fondly from my childhood. Since there were no Krystals at the time in my hometown of Crestview, Florida we would always stop on the way to visit our family in Alabama and grab a sackful. You could feed the whole car for under $10! Nothing tastes as good as food in the back-seat!

The only burger that even comes close to a those tiny jewels is a White Castle burger. They aren't as good, but they are at least close. The Krystal is a thin piece of hamburger meat on a steamed bun topped with (reconstituted) grilled onions, a thin dill pickle slice and a squirt of mustard. Oh, this is the stuff cravings are made of! My serving suggestion is to get about 10 packs of ketchup in which to dip your burger.

Usually people get between two and four of these with fries to make up a meal. In addition to Krystal burgers, they offer Double Decker Krystals. These are like mini-Big Mac's, Krystal style! The have three pieces of bun and 2 pieces of meat and both sandwiches are available with cheese. I, myself, would never consider ordering a Krystal without the cheese, but you may be allergic.

They also offer other treats involving chicken and weinies. The Chili Pup is a small hot dog that you can have plain, with chili or with chili and cheese. Can you guess which one I recommend? Yep, loaded. They offer Corn Pups, which is a mini corndog and is actually very good. The last novelty item is the Krystal Chick which is just fabulous. It is a small, thin square of a chicken patty on a bun with mayo and a pickle. It is reminiscent of my beloved Chick-fil-a, but not an exact replica. You are at Krystal where the buzzword is "mini."

If you have children, they may order a kid's meal which comes with your choice of the following: Krystal, Krystal Pup, Corn Pup or Krystal Chick and comes with fries, drink, mini Moonpie and a toy.

They also have the standard fry and onion ring fare, but you can get a delicious concoction like no other place I've been to lately: Chili Cheese Fries. If you aren't in the mood for a coke, you may have an Icee and for dessert they have Lemon Meringue Pie among others.

I have tried every food they have on the lunch/dinner menu and will give you my ordering recommendation. If you are not craving any one thing in particular, get one cheese Krystal, one Chili Pup and one Krystal Chick. If you want, have some fries and a coke to round it out. Oh, heaven!

Though I have never eaten breakfast here, they have your standard fare: Biscuits, Biscuits with the following toppings: bacon, eggs, gravy and sausage or combine a few for the Bacon, Egg and Cheese biscuit. They also have a signature item called the Krystal Sunriser which is just a Krystal bun with egg, cheese and sausage. Hashbrowns are also available. One fine point I should make: Krystals are available in the morning, so I have never needed to order breakfast! I can eat Krystals at any time of the day!

Just like any other fast food establishment, the service at each restaurant on each day is different. I have eaten at nearly 20 Krystals in 5 or so states in my lifetime and generally speaking the service is slow and sometimes inconsiderate. There are exceptions, but I usually don't expect much when I go. The restaurants are also of varying degrees of cleanliness. I wouldn't expect much there either. None of this matters, get a tetanus shot, put on smile and order up some of the best little burgers this side of the Mason Dixon line!
