McDonald's Way Back Then
Do you remember when you were a kid and those Big Macs where huge? I can remember visiting McDonald's with my family when growing up and a Big Mac would fill my Dad up. Not so anymore. If you have tried a Big Mac recently you will surely notice that they are not so big anymore!
In fact, I believe it has shrunk by approximately 25-35%. I already mentioned that my Dad is not happy with just one anymore. Same thing with my husband, one is just not enough to fill him up even with the side order of french fries. However, at Wendy's or Burger King one hamburger with french fries usually does the trick. But back to the Big Mac and it's shrinking... I noticed that the price didn't shrink at all! It has continually increased in price over the years with the size of the burger going down.
Maybe this is just a case of your eyes being bigger than your stomach when you are a kid, I'm not 100% sure but it sure looks like that burger did a shrinking act to me! I'll let you be the judge on that one!
Quality of Food
I must say that the quality of the food at McDonald's is still about the same but I wouldn't dare say it is very healthy. They have made amends in the recent past and added several healthy salad choices to the menu. Just be sure to ask for a low-calorie dressing or the salad won't be a low calorie meal anymore. However, despite the quality of the food, I do enjoy a visit to McDonald's every now and then!
Menu
McDonald's has a variety of items on the menu including chicken sandwiches, chicken nuggets, salads, other hamburgers and specialty items offered throughout the year like the McRibb . They also have soft serve ice cream and the new McFlurry's which are ice cream in a cup mixed with m&m's or oreos. Meal Deals are also available with french fries and a coke starting at $2.99 and up. They also offer kids meals with hamburgers, cheeseburgers or chicken nuggets. Each meal is packed with a special toy inside. Some are not just for kids...remember the Ty beannies ?? Who could resist those? Recently, McDonald's has added a $.99 menu to keep up with competitors. Some of the items you will find on this menu are Breakfast Burrito, small french fries, cheeseburger, spicy chicken sandwich, and the Big and Tasty hamburger. McDonald's has a full breakfast menu including biscuits, Breakfast Burritos, Egg McMuffins, pancakes, sausage and eggs platter to side orders of hash browns. Add a hot coffee, milk or juice and you have a full serve breakfast. I find most of the food here greasy and without much taste unless you count the grease flavor.
Indoor Dining Rooms
McDonald's has a big spacious dining room that is usually kept clean. Here in Baton Rouge, each dining area is furnished with a self-serve island containing napkins, straws, ketchup, daily newspapers and a monthly Parent's magazine.
In a Hurry?
If you do not want to dine-in or you are in a hurry, use the drive-thru service. It is usually very fast with a window to pay and move up to the next window to pick up your food. Your food is almost always ready when you reach the last window. All this should take only 5 minutes at the max.
For Kids Only!
Now to be fair to McDonald's I have to say that McDonald's is every kid's favorite place to go get a hamburger and fries. The Happy Meals are a hands down favorite among kids from age 1 and up. Not only that, most McDonald's have a super playground. The latest McDonald's built have an indoor playground that has surpassed the favoritism given to the older outdoor playgrounds. What gives these playgrounds such appeal? I have to say the McDonaldland characters add to the appeal. Kids just love the playgrounds which are usually a maze of tunnels and slides.
Final Word
Even if you hold a grudge about the Big Mac getting smaller, just remember that McDonald's will always be #1 and at the top of the list for kids!
