Pros:Food can be good, cheap, locations everywhere
Cons:Bad service, food can be horrible
The Bottom Line: Like most places it can be good and it can be bad. But it remains my favorite fast food. I love the burgers!
McDonalds is, and probably will be, the leading fast food chain for quite some time. While children as young as two and seniors as old as ninety recognize the symbolic golden arches, so do many foreigners who have never even seen American grounds. But what makes McDonalds so much better than Burger King, Taco Bell, Jack In The Box, Wendys, Arbys, and Dairy Queen?

Most McDonalds have the same basic look inside ad out. A playground area usually lays in front, sometimes the side, and in a few it is inside. This is how they pull in the families. I have not seen any other fast food chain with a playground, but maybe there is in other areas. But if the kid wants to play, the kid will play. Mommy/Daddy/Sissy/Grandma, I wanna go play at McDonalds and get a happy meal. It always works. The parking lots are usually bigger than most other fast food restaurants (and feature more handicapped spots) and many provide bike stands. The drive-thru lines also are longer, which is helpful because I have been through some others at busy times and although there is not so many cars, it is almost backed up to the street, which in turn can cause a potential customer to go elsewhere. Here lately I have also noticed additions of water fountains throughout the drive-thru line, which provides a sense of peace and calmness to the customers. Inside the McDonalds they again try to provide that sense of calmness with numerous plants. Usually there are two separate seating areas where in cities that public smoking is allowed one side would be smoking and the other non-smoking. Every time I have been inside it has been clean - one or two dirty tables if that. The restrooms are in the back, however those I have found not to be kept as clean. But if we are traveling and the only restroom choices are those of fast food chains, I always pick the McDonalds as opposed to any others. The restrooms also provide the customer with the choice of an air-dryer or paper towels to dry your hands with. Me, I hate the air-dryers, but most places are switching to them due to less trash, replacement, and immature kids stuffing paper towels in the toilets and/or sinks.
Used to be you would walk into a store and people would smile. Friendly people they were. Glad to take your order and give you your burger. What ever happened to the good old days? Words from my Grandfather. I sometimes wonder what the good old days were like. People smile? What is that? What I really wonder is when I become a Grandmother, are the years in my life now going to be referred to the good old days then? Scary thought. Most employees get paid minimum wage. Most employees are high school students. Most employees work there because their friends do. When I was a senior in high school a friend of mine worked at a McDonalds for about a year and was just promoted to manager status. She was even eighteen. And as a manager she made a little over than ten cents than she did before manager. Oh, and they worked her to death, even after she begged during finals week to have less hours to study. But she gave us free food all the time while she was working and we were out having fun, so its all worth it, right?
Needless to say, nothing much can be expected out of the employees. Some I have seen behind that counter could not even add two plus two with using the register. If you are lucky they take your order without sighs, dirty looks, or plain rudeness. If you are even luckier, you might just get them to comprehend your order and push the corresponding buttons to a number five super-sized with a Coke and a cheeseburger happy meal with a Sprite. But please, dont ask for anything special like no tomatoes on that burger. Not only will you get a few dirty looks, cause complete confusion with ALL employees there (including the three people standing outside on their cigarette break), and get your food spit in, youll still get the pickles and probably extra. The cooks usually move zombie-like back there responding to the various beeps of the French Fries being done, and the chicken nuggets, and the timer telling them to flip the burger. One time in the drive-thru, the only people in the drive-thru, we had ordered two Dr Peppers and received a Sprite and a Coke. Upon realizing this, we kindly told the girl, who took them back and then gave us a Diet Coke and some kind of orange soda. We just took them. You know when you cant win.
I love the cheeseburgers and I am not a big cheeseburger fan. You got to be careful though because every now and then they get a little crazy with the ketchup bottle. They have their McValue menu that offers a small variety of items for sixty-nine, seventy-nine, or ninety-nine cents. Not incredibly cheaper than competition, but it still can be a good deal. Especially when you dont want a whole meal. For a while now they have also been doing a big campaign for a forty-two ounce soda for only sixty-nine cents. Soda prices have been rising steadily, and that is a great price. Beats ay other place including gas stations. Only disadvantage the other day for lunch I said a large Dr Pepper without realizing I had meat to say the forty-two ounce. The large, which I believe is a thirty-something ounce, cost about a dollar and fifty cents. Didnt that just suck. Happy meals come with a sandwich, fries, and a toy. Sometimes you get the cute little boxes, sometimes you dont. The food is fair. Nothing great, after all it is only fast food, but I like the food better than most other fast food. The fish sandwiches are one of my favorites, although sometimes they let them sit there for a long time and the fish and the cheese gets hard. I like the French Fries, they have a unique taste. Usually anywhere else I dont even order ay fries. Kids like it, parents like it, and it doesnt break anybodys bank. Well, except for mine a few days before payday.
Old McDonald has it figured it. A happy meal here and a McValue meal there - here a customer, there a customer. A big parking lot here and a water fountain there here a customer, there a customer. A few young employees here and some cheap employees there heres a profit, theres a profit. Old McDonald had to have been rich. Mrs. McDonald had to have gotten a lot of alimony.
