Epinions.com classifies this restaurant as a "bakery", but it is much more than that. Panera Bread offers a great line of quality soups and sandwiches, as well as an impressive bakery. I have been to this place many times and I haven't been let down yet.
Soups
There are always a few piping hot soups to choose from. I have had the cream of broccoli and the French onion soups. The cream of broccoli was thick and creamy, and had a lot of broccoli chunks in it. Crackers are a must with this soup. The French onion was also good, but not as good as the cream of broccoli. My mom loves French onion soup so I figured I would try it one time and it was good. Had a great flavor and a lot of melted cheese.
The best part of ordering soup at Panera Bread is that your soup bowl is actually a loaf of bread! They hollow out the loaf and just pour soup into it. It's great because you get to dip the hollowed out part of the bread into the soup. Yum.
Sandwiches
The sandwiches are also very tasty. They serve you fresh lunchmeat and very fresh bread. One thing some people might not like is that there isn't a big selection as far as what type of bread you want served with your sandwich. I love the sourdough bread that they advertise in the menu, but some people might want Rye or Pumpernickel. Maybe they do offer a choice at other Panera Bread restaurants, but not the one I went to.
The sandwiches all come with fresh lettuce, tomato, pickle, and a bunch of alfalfa. It is stacked up pretty high, cut in half, and will fill you up. You also get a bag of the best chips in the world with your sandwich, Krunchers.
Bakery
This is a part of the restaurant that I haven't experienced really. I come for lunch and want a good sandwich or bread bowl of soup. But many people simply come for coffee or tea and a pastry form the bakery. They have all your classics covered, but offer a variety of much more exquisite pastries and rolls. Some people come in just to buy a few loafs of their favorite fresh bread and leave.
Atmosphere and Service
This place smells great, especially if you walk over by the bakery. It isn't any fancy sit down restaurant or anything though. It is probably the nicest "fast food" place I have ever been to though. You have to wait in line to order your food, take a number, and then wait for your number to be called. You seat yourself and get your own drinks form the pop machine. They do have lemon slices and sugar for people that drink water out by the pop machine.
They make your sandwich and call your number pretty fast. The sandwiches are constructed neatly and served with a fancy toothpick in each half so it doesn't fall apart. The people are friendly and never have given me an attitude.
Cleanliness
Panera Bread is very clean and crisp on the inside. The layout of the restaurant is original and appealing to the eye. I haven't had to use the bathroom there, but they are probably clean as a bathroom can be.
Overall
All in all this is a great place to stop for lunch. The service is great as well as the food. If you have a sandwich, next time you gotta get some soup and vice versa. I give Panera Bread a 9.5 out of 10 because this place is great for lunch.
