Pros: Inexpensive, quick, consistent.
Cons: Not in the same ballpark as good New York or Chicago style pizza
The Bottom Line: If you don't feel like leaving the house and your options are limited, you are not making a mistake by calling your Papa.

| csilv's Full Review: Papa John's Pizza |
I want to start by saying...yes I did work for this company in college. I managed a very busy Papa John's for a couple of years while trying to earn my graduate degree. Following will be my unbiased opinion. Hopefully I won't be sued by the company under any sort of non-disclosure agreement I may have signed.
The formula that is used by Papa John's works because it is simple. Do one thing..and do it as well as you can for the money.
From my experience, the food handling and storage is strictly monitored and the ingredients used are about as good as are available for the money.
Pizza dough is prepared off-site and comes shipped on palates. Dough is kept refrigerated up until the time of use, and is only good for a couple of days. Old dough is discarded and not used if it has risen too much prior to use. The pizza sauce is made from cans of tomato sauce which are opened and mixed with Papa's blend of spices on the day of use. I am not a big fan of the sauce..because it is a little too sweet for my taste, but it is of high-quality. Vegetables are generally freshly cut on the day of use. Meat toppings come in plastic bags and are also sealed until just before use. The cheese used is 100% Mozzarella, which, like everything else is kept at or near freezing until use.
Believe me, I ate a lot of this stuff when I worked there and I would recommend the pizza to anyone, as long as they know what they are going to get. Our location was open until 2 am nightly and 3 am on weekends...we would deliver upwards of 300-400 pizzas a night..and not too many people ever complained..they were either too drunk to find the phone...or happy in consistently receiving a decent product for a pretty good price.
With that said...I never even entertain the idea of finding a Papa John's where I am now, because I am spoiled by the pizza from the local New York style Italian restaurant around the corner. But if you are hungry and it is late and your favorite local restaurant is closed, or doesn't deliver...give Papa a call.
