Pros: Limited menu makes for consistently good product
Cons: Limited menu gets boring
The Bottom Line: More consistently good than Dominoes and Godfathers, less expensive than Pagliacci, and we don’t have to bake it like Papa Murphy’s. We will probably continue to favor them for now.

| bartzone's Full Review: Papa John's Pizza |
Sue's Pre-Ramble
We like pizza, but when the teen genius is off at college, we seldom order pizza because it takes so long for just the two of us to finish one. We order from Papa Johns Pizza about once a month using their online order form. The thing we like most is that they have a nice variety of toppings (though nothing adventurous) at a decent price and the pizza is consistently tasty. The Papa Johns in our area are take-out or delivery only with no seating available. We usually order from the one at 15575 NE 24th St, Bellevue, WA 98007. Their order number is (425) 747-7727 or can be ordered online at: http://www.papajohns.com.
The Order
Papa Johns has three ways to order: In person, over the phone or online. For the lazy person in me, the easiest is online. I can choose either the pre-designed pies or build my own and not confuse anybody with my whole topping of mushrooms, half topping of tomatoes, etc. The only time I found it inconvenient to order online was on a Sunday morning. The store opens at 11 and if I phoned in an order I could get it by 11:30, but if I ordered it online, I had to order for delivery at least one hour after the store opens. Now I thought that meant I could order it for delivery at noon, but noon was only an hour and it had to be more than an hour in fifteen minute increments, so in reality, the earliest delivery time is 12:15 p.m. I get things confused when I try to describe what I want over the phone, so online has been the perfect choice.
The Food
They have a nice selection of meat (ham, pepperoni, bacon, sausage, spicy sausage, chicken), veggie (green peppers, onions, mushrooms, olives, jalepenos, tomatoes, pineapple) and other (extra cheese, pepper flakes) toppings, but nothing out of the ordinary. I can get an alfredo sauce instead of marinara if I order one of several specialty pizzas, but it isnt on the menu as an option for other pizzas. I can also order anchovies from the side menu and place them on the pizza myself if I want. The other side items include breadsticks, chicken strips and wings, dipping sauces for the bread and chicken, and small dessert pizzas (berry, apple, cinnamon). There are also three choices of crust thin crispy, original and square pan. They do allow for some substitution or adding of extra toppings, but not if the pizza is part of a special like two one topping pizzas for $X, where we are limited to the one topping even if we wanted to pay extra for the additional items.
If I order from the current specials, I can usually get a couple of pizzas for about $25. If I stray into the side orders my bill goes up astronomically (6 small chicken strips with dipping sauce for $6) and I never order their soft drinks unless there is nothing to drink in the fridge and our water has been turned off, because their profit margin on soda pop rivals the growth rate of the national debt.
The Delivery
The delivery is consistently on time and the pizza is typically mouth watering enough to savor one bite at a time instead of merely devouring hungrily. There is a delivery charge of a couple dollars per order and in this time of rising gas prices I expect it to go up. We typically order a large thin crust with ham, pineapple and extra cheese and a large original crust with chicken, mushrooms and fresh tomatoes.
What Could be Better
Despite the fact that they are a good business putting out a good product, they do have a couple of strikes against them: first is that they dont sell a salad which is something I really love; and second is that the toppings are pretty mainstream and Id like to see them branch out once in a while with something different like shrimp, salmon or linguica sausage.
The Bottom Line
We typically order a large thin crust with ham, pineapple and extra cheese and a large original crust with chicken, mushrooms and fresh tomatoes. Since they are more consistent than Dominoes and Godfathers, less expensive than Pagliacci, and we dont have to bake it like Papa Murphys, we will probably continue to favor them for now.
