I was really surprised at the amount of negative reviews being written on Papa John's Pizza, so I figured I would throw my defensive 2 cents in here. I really like this pizza!!
First of all, I have a few ordering tips for you. I know we all have all experienced the "perpetual ignore" session, when you call on a weekend night and are immediately put on hold for 10 minutes while you hungrily wait for some rude teenager to take your order. I hate this pizza-ordering ritual so much that there have been times when I have decided to go to the corner Taco Bell instead of enduring the phone torture. So I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Papa John's has a website, (www.papajohns.com) and hallelujah, you can order pizza there! To make it even better, they have great specials listed on the web, my favorite being 2 large pizzas with 2 toppings for $13.99. You simply go to the website, enter your name, address, phone number, and email address, then place your order.
They have some really good cheese bread, and the requisite bread sticks, which come with some great dipping choices, marinara, ranch and a garlic butter sauce. The garlic butter is incredibly greasy, but it tastes really good for the first couple of dips.
A few minutes after you place your order, you will receive an confirmation email, complete with the expected delivery time for your pizza. I have without exception received my pizza twice as fast by ordering it online, instead of over the phone. Your delivery person will accept cash or a credit card. If you use a credit card, you will have to select the option to have someone call you for special instructions, as they actually run your card prior to delivery. I have paid both ways, and of course, cash is the easiest option.
Here's the insider information for any of you who do any of the points programs, such as Memolink or MyPoints. If you go to your points program and sign up at Food.com, (which is basically a hub for delivery and take-out restaurants), then order your pizza through them, you will receive points every time you order pizza! Food.com offers the same menu and specials as the actual Papa John's website.
Once your pizza arrives, dig in! It always arrives hot and steaming. The toppings are very good, I just wish they put a little more of each topping on there. The cheese is plentiful as is the sauce. I hope you like a saucy pizza, because that's what you are going to get here!
I know there are better pizzas at dine-in restaurants, but for delivery pizza, this beats Little Ceasar's and Pizza Hut hands down in my opinion.
