| youdamom's Full Review: Peet's Coffee & Tea |
Why is Starbucks THE coffee spot. Oh, I remember, cuz there are tons of them, just about one on every corner where I live. Peet's Coffee is a bit harder to find. Well, a lot harder, actually, which is too bad because they have excellent espresso. Notice how I didn't say coffee.
Alright, well, their coffee isn't terrible, it's just too strong for my liking. I enjoy bold flavors, but Peet's is so bold it borders on bitter.
Their espresso drinks, however, are awesome. While Starbucks can't seem to make a decent latte, Peet's perfects them. The are rich and smooth, and the foam doesn't taste like sewer water. It's all about the foam, and believe me, Starbucks doesn't know a thing about foam.
The foam at Peet's is thick and creamy. They steam the milk just right, then whip the top to create a perfect "head."
I also enjoy the tea at Peet's. My favorite is the Downey Jasmine, which is a bit more expensive than the others, but well worth the extra bucks.
The general atmosphere of Peet's is sophisticated - something Starbucks definitely can't boast. I've never been in a Peet's that wasn't clean and didn't smell great. I've got to say, though, that the Baristas are really snooty! I think they know that the espresso they're serving is superior, which gives them a bit of an attitude. Once you get past that, Peet's is alright.
