...almost like home cooking...

Pros:most are open 24 hours, with a full menu, and reasonable prices
Cons:sometimes crowded, with parking problems to go with it
The Bottom Line: Perkins is a fine, family-type restaurant with an extensive menu, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a good reasonably-priced meal.
I find it nice that Perkin's Restaurants always have a huge flag out front, as it makes it easy to find them from the interstate, or driving down a crowded city street, so that even driving in an unfamiliar city, it isn't hard to locate the restaurant. They are usually located close to the interstates, or along main thorough-fares, so even if you aren't sure where they are located, it isn't too difficult to just drive down a main street, and see the large flag breezing over the place.
Their menu is standard in all the restaurants, but they sometimes have seasonal treats, especially ones found locally. The menu is quite extensive, and they serve every item anytime day or night. I personally like the pork chop dinner, with a choice of vegetable, and a salad, but they also serve seafood, chicken, and steaks, as well as breakfasts, luncheon sandwiches, soups, burgers and fries.
It is nice to be able to get a breakfast sometimes after a late movie lets out, and be able to sit and relax over coffee, chatting with close friends for hours. Of course, at 2 am, waffles taste even better than they do during the day! I have found the waitresses and waiters friendly, even at the odd hours, fresh coffee always available, with pots set on the table for my convenience.
And the desserts - Perkins is famous for their pies, muffins, brownies, and cookies... if you order a full breakfast, you might think of a warm blueberry muffin to go with it - let me warn you, the muffin can nearly stand alone as a meal in itself! They are larger than a handful, and the aroma tickles your nose while the butter melts!
I think the most popular dessert is their French Silk Pie, a creamy rich, decadent chocolate-lovers' delight. They make the pies fresh every day, with the other bakery items, and you might want to consider taking a whole pie home to surprise someone. It will be enjoyed immensely, I promise you!
But their dessert menu is several pages long - with such delights (especially if you are a chocolate lover like me!) as Heath Bar Crunch, Peanut Butter Silk, and Caramel Apple, along with the "standards" - cherry, apple, and pecan, and when it's in season, the peach pie is delicious.
Living in the midwest, but traveling around the country, I have found the the prices at Perkins are among the most reasonable of any restaurants in the area. It is sometimes nice to eat in new and "out of the way" places, I agree, but having a place that serves up a delicious, hot meal, even predictable sometimes, is nice too - it almost feels like home.
