The idea was a great one!
Get the food you used to gather on sundays at Grandma's house to pig out on in a reasonably fast manner with happy people serving you in a setting the is reminiscent of an antique barn.
The journey starts when they serve your cold drinks in a mason jar complete with handle. (I had one explode on me on my first visit to Po Folks, but they were so quite to apologize and help clean me up (ahem I can do that!) that I can't really consider this a complaint. I have broken a glass while doing dishes, surely the high capacity of service is allowed to weather one or two "oopses"
The inside of the places are wonderful (I've been to more than one!) The walls are amassed with displays of old things. Antiquities that once functioned as normal "tools" of the day in life. From Artful displays to washboards, chances are you'll see it hanging on their walls somewhere.
Never a boring moment....the booths are arranged in such a way as to provide as much "intimacy" as possible so the "chatter" of others is kept to a dull background non-invasive level.
All but one of the times I've visited Po Folks, I've had charming waiters/waitresses that made my dinner enjoyable. Pausing often to see to it that my every whim was catered to, as well as bringing the food in a timely manner.
The prices are excellent, low budget meals which I've noticed change prices from region to region so I won't even attempt to quote but you can take the family out for under $30 I would say and walk out with a full belly and a good feeling for being dealt with in not only a professional manner, but a friendly and curteous one as well!
I haven't found a bad Po Folks and I hesitate to even say "yet" because I seriously doubt I will!
The idea works and I recommend Po Folks to just about every one. If you are only out for a romantic evening, this might not work too well because there are plenty of children in these restaurants, but if you aren't worried about romance, then this restaurant would be a pleasing evening of good food and good people.
Food:
All the food is served piping hot, large proportions and lots of refills
for drinks. Taste is well above average.
Service:
On all occasions but one, I have received the top grade service from all involved in each store!
Decor:
The Decor is enchanting...it's like a trip backwards through time!
