There's a Macaroni Grill that opened recently about an hour from here, and I've been thinking about checking it out sometime. After reading your review, I'll definitely have lunch there soon!

and the veal saltimbocca was very tough and overcooked. There was very little spinach and the pasta came out with NO sauce.

Chain Italian restaurants are to Italian food what Pizza Hut is to real pizza. There is no comparison and I will no longer eat in this type of chain restaurant. Like Bryan Carey, I prefer the mom and pop or higher end Italian places.

Phil, I grew up in Stony Brook on LI and know there are many, many better places to eat there. Granted, these places are convenient, but why would anyone want toeat chain Italian food when there are so many better choices out there?

The same applies here in NJ. There are too many better choices to spend time waiting on line for mass-produced, mediocre Italian fare.

I've GOT to check this place out, but the one around here is also next to Cozymel's, and even if I think about going to the Macaroni Grill, I end up at Cozymel's instead. Great review!

the last time I went to macaroni grill, I was less than impressed, but it wasn't bad either, really. however, had I gone at lunch and profited of better prices, I think it would've sat with me a bit better. perhaps I'll give it another go.

Chain Italian Restauarants (Reply to this comment)

Macaroni grill is good, but I have become spoiled by the mom and pop Italian eateries which feature more authentic Italian food. However, Macaroni Grill is better than some of the other chains (like Olive Garden), so I still keep it open as an option if there are no privately owned, Italian family restaurants available to visit.

Great review. We have one of these where I live, I keep meaning to go, but never do. I'll have to one of these days.

I just love the atmosphere and the food here. I have never eaten a bad meal at Romano's. The hardest part for me is trying to keep from filling up on that delicious bread!

As always, an interesting and thorough review.

Cheers!
