| stockholder's Full Review: Steak 'n Shake |
NOTE: Steak N Shake has 380 locations in eighteen states throughout the south and Midwest of the United States.
This Steak n Shake is one of the biggest scams ever when it comes to their burgers. They want you to believe that their burgers are not just made out of beef, but made out of steak. So they charge around $4.00 for their Double Steak Burger that is not bigger or better tasting than, say, the Wendys 99-cent Double Stack with cheese. Not to mention you need to pay extra for their skinny tasteless French Fries that are cut as thin as shoelaces.
I ordered everything on my Double Steak Burger and that was a mistake, the white trash waitress forgot to mention that they load on the mayonnaise, while they leave the pickle, lettuce and tomato on the side, that makes no sense, after all, how many people want mayo on their burger? Not many like to be surprised by a big creamy white load globed all over their buns.
After scarfing down the average tasting burger, I felt almost as hungry as I did when I walked in the place. I normally would have ordered two burgers, but I was expecting much more food from a place like this. Not to mention that the waitress acted like she was serving customers lobster and steak at the Chez Panisse, so I knew I needed to leave her at least three dollars tip. This place is far too pricey for the amount of food you get and you need to tip your server.
Since I was starving, but could not afford another million-dollar burger, I ordered a side order of the baked beans. The shocking part about these beans is they did not have an immediate affect on my stomach, I felt relatively good until I got home. After I sat on my couch and my stomach began to settle is when I felt the fury of these beans. When the fire works began they did not stop for approximately 5-minutes and when it was all said and done I almost stained my NFL Boxer Shorts. I needed to jump-up and rest myself on the toilet for a good portion of the night. I cannot pinpoint the blame for all of this toilet time to the beans, since most of the time mayonnaise has the same affect on me. Needless to say, I made some very poor eating choices and I paid the price, you would think at my age I would have learned my lesson by now.
So the burgers, fries and side order were a complete disappointment. But this place does not have the word Shake in their name for nothing.
They have about six different flavors of shakes (Mocha, Peach, Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry and Banana) and about six other desserts on the menu. The shakes are about $1.75 for a small, served in a 10-ounce glass and $2.65 for the large that is served in a 16-ounce glass. They are worth every penny considering the price is not much more than McDonalds shakes and they are far superior. For 35 cents they will pour hot fudge on top of the shake, they call that a Sippin Sundae. I was very impressed with my dessert.
Also on the menu: Chicken Fingers; Frisco Melt; Fried Fish Dinner; Chicken melt; and Chili Macaroni Meal. Each dinner includes the main course, plus a side. They also have a kids menu that I forgot to get details on.
The bottom Line on S.n. S
I was disappointed with many facets of my dining experience at Steak n Shake. I spent about $14 dollars on a lunch that was equal to a Wendys lunch of $5. I was bothered by the extremely scary waitress that was bending over backwards attempting to earn a large tip, the whole time I could not stop worrying about how much to tip her, after all, I was in a fast-food hamburger joint. But this beastly waitress had a teardrop tattooed below her eye and looked like she could have easily lifted me over her head. She also found it necessary to mention her 6 kids, I was afraid.
The atmosphere was also disappointing, Steak n Shake is designed to look like a 1950s Diner, but the problem is there was no 1950s memorabilia on the walls, just the clean bright circular tables and booths that you would see in the old drive through days, nothing special.
I do like that they have a 24-hour drive thru and you can avoid scary waitresses and leaving a tip. But when I return I will be purchasing nothing but a milk shake, I recommend both the peach and mocha.
