Blank Angus vs. Cattle Company
I read some reviews here and was a bit curious why some people referred to Stuart Anderson's as a Black Angus and others referred to them as the Cattle Company. In Anchorage, Alaska we already have a Black Angus restaurant and it is totally separate from Stuart Anderson's. So I did some checking into the history of this restaurant and found that in some states they do go under the Cattle Company name so they won't be confused with other Black Angus restaurants who were already in business before Stuart Anderson came on the scene. In Alaska, they go by Stuart Anderson's Cattle Company.
Our History with Stuart Anderson's
When my hubby and I were dating, over 20 years ago, we used to frequent this restaurant mainly because they had a live band and a stainless steel dance floor. We had a ball here, the drinks were fabulous. They have since done away with the dance floor and we have only been back a few times, until we recently saw a coupon in the Sunday paper and went out for our anniversary.
What A Deal!
The coupon featured their famous Wagon Wheel Sampler Platter. This included two slices of Prime Rib, Soup or Salad (salad lovers that we are this was a no brainer), Vegetables, Potato, Bread, and a delicious chocolate fudge cake for dessert - all for $36!! This is cheap for Alaska!
They Draw a Crowd
We had reservations, but they were really crowded. Either everyone was using their coupons, or people are celebrating the end of winter. The restaurant was really full and we had to wait for 20 minutes before being seated.
The employees were all very nice and accommodating, we got drinks while waiting. My very favorite drink is their Strawberry Daiquiri - very flavorful!
We were seated at a nice, private booth that I found very conducive to conversation with my hubby. We both ordered our Prime Rib medium well, and it came pretty close to that, maybe just a little more well done than I wanted, but it was tasty and flavorful and tender. The vegetables were just as we like them, crisp steamed.
The baked potato was wonderful and the hot bread was great (bread is my weakness and I love it when restaurants serve it still warm). We both opted for the salad over the soup, with thousand island dressing. The lettuce was crisp and fresh, as well as the other veggies in the salad.
The waiter was very friendly and efficient. We were stuffed when we finished our meal, the Prime Rib were 1/2 pound slices! Then we were informed about the fabulous, tempting, Big Mountain Chocolate Fudge Cake!
Wow! Here was a big piece of thick, fudge like chocolate cake, topped with ice cream with chocolate sauce drizzled over the top. It was truly delicious. I must confess we had to bring part of it home in a doggie bag (along with some of my Prime Rib. I don't usually have room for dessert, but since it came free with the dinner we figured why not. I would order it again!
A Very Satisfying Meal
We don't go out to dinner a lot. When we go out to eat, it is usually for breakfast. When we go to dinner we usually go for Italian or Mexican food. So this was a treat for me. Considering the price with the coupon, we were very happy with the service and the food.
Other Menu Items
We did look at a menu, just because it had been a while since we had eaten here and we wanted to check out other prices and compare them to the coupon special. They also serve Surf 'n Turf, Chicken, Ribs, Fish, Prawns, steak, and an array of appetizers (we remembered their potato skins were great from before). They have something for everyone.
A Pleasant Experience
We had a great time at Stuart Anderson's. It brought back a lot of memories, but I wish they still had the dance floor :(
Watch for their coupons in the Sunday coupon inserts, they are there every so often!
