Pros: *Lots of choices
*Low fat menu
While I've never been a huge Subway fan, I've eaten their sandwiches quite a few times and do like that I can choose to eat a lower calorie, lower fat, healthier sandwich if I choose to. I also like that they have Baked Lay's Potato Chips to go along with a sandwich.
Now, all of that said what has brought me back to Subway recently is because a few days ago I saw a commercial for a hot pastrami sandwich at their restaurant. I could hardly believe it.
Over seven years ago I moved from Southern California to Wisconsin. The move was a good one and I'm very happy living here except that I have not been able to find a hot pastrami sandwich the way I use to get it in SoCal. Some places make a cold pastrami on rye but that is not the sandwich I was looking for. The sandwich we would purchase used a french roll, mustard, pickles and pastrami. Oh yummy...what a great sandwich that is. I had missed it terribly but have been very pleased that Subway is at least temporarily filling my "I've got to have a pastrami" need filled.
I do like that you can choose what type of sandwich you want, the size, and what things you would like on it. Customizing a submarine sandwich to each persons own liking helps to make this a sandwich shop that is doing a great business.
I remember too seeing all of those commericials with Jared, the man who lost weight eating at Subway everyday. If you want to ingest less fat, then their turkey breast, ham, veggie, club, roast beef or sweet onion chicken teriyaki are under 6 grams of fat.
If you prefer a hot sandwich you can have meatball, Italian BMT, Spicy Italian, Steak & Cheese, Subway Melt or Chicken & Bacon Ranch....and of course right now the hot Pastrami too.
You can also get the Fresh Fit for Kids which is either a ham, tuna, turkey breast or roast beef sub with fresh veggies with dip and milk.
If you prefer to have a salad they can make any sub up as a salad using lettuce and then whatever you would have on a sub. I haven't done this yet, but I do think especially in the summer this would be a great way to enjoy a low calorie salad while getting some ingredients that you wouldn't usually have in a salad.
I do like that you can chose between a 6" or a 12" sub. Usually I buy the 12" and eat half and have another half for the next day. You can also choose the type of bread you would like. I usually chose a white or wheat roll, but I know they also have Italian and cheese as well.
It does seem as if the quality is pretty consistent between the different restaurants I've gone to and I'm amazed that they have 28,898 restaurants in 86 different countries.
They carry Pepsi products for drinks and do generally have tables that you can sit and eat at if you should chose to or they will wrap your sandwhich up to go and slide it in to a plastic carrying sleeve.
Most sandwiches run between $3.00 - $6.00 range but can vary according to the type of sandwich, meat and cheese selections.
While I'm not a huge Subway fan, mostly because I'm not a big sandwich eater, I do think they have excellent fresh sandwiches and as long as they have the hot pastrami they'll be getting a lot of my business. I think I'm glad that it is only a limited time sandwich....my waistline can't afford to eat too many of these!
