Pros: Everything can be heated and the breads are very good.
Cons: Having to wait in line to give your order.
The Bottom Line: Of Blimpies, Quizno's and Subway I like the latter.

| popsrocks's Full Review: Subway |
I've been on the road a bit more often recently and I have made my rounds to too many fast food restaurants. Included are some specialty places like Blimpies, Quizno's and what I now consider the king of all the chain sandwich shops, Subway.
Subways are well represented in NYC and Long Island has a fair amount of them too. They are generally a well lighted store with large front windows and clean tile floors. Most I have been in have a few very small tables, barely large enough for one person to sit at. They are however all different with over 23,000 Subways worldwide. It seems to me that most people order to take out anyway. I haven't been in a Subway that offers table service. I don't believe they have it in any of their stores.
What I don't like about Subway and these type chains in particular is the waiting time when there are others ahead in line. Each sandwich must be made by hand with many decisions to be made as to kind of bread, hot or cold, kinds of fillers, and toppings and dressings.
What I like about Subway above the others is that they seem to have very fresh food and keep their containers with toppings tidy, clean and very fresh looking. I've never seen any wilted lettuce or dried dressings on bottles. When you are waiting on line one tends to watch for these things. They also give a good amount of filler.
Many times as I'm driving through new neighborhoods I'll notice a Subway with signs for their daily specials. Here on Long island it's a 6" Sub at $2.49. That unfortunately is not enough to fill this big boy. The 12" sandwiches do. The prices can go from the $2.49 6" sub up to $6-$7 depending on size and fill.
Inside they have a board with suggestions and prices. The first decision is whether to have a Sandwich 6" or Footlong, a wrap, or a salad.
For the sandwiches choices of five breads are decided on. They have Italian, Wheat, Parmesan Oregano, (my favorite) Honey Oat, Italian with herbs and Cheese or a deli style roll. I happen to like their breads. They have body and don't get all soggy when toppings and sauces are added. They also come up to a nice crunch when they are heated.
These can be used for any of their ham, turkey, tuna, roast beef or chicken sandwiches. They offer other types and combos too.
I especially like their Hot sandwiches. I never had them before trying Quizno's I like the Subway hot sandwich better. The bread is one big reason but I also like how evenly toasted and heated they are. Until I came back to Subway in the last month or so a couple of times, I had Quizno's down as the better of the two. Now that I have had the Subway Hot's, I like them much better.
The Subway offers hot sandwiches of
Meatballs Marinara
Italian BMT
Chipolte Southwest Cheese steak
Cheese Steak Dijon Turkey Breast, Ham, and Bacon Melt
Turkey breast, Ham, and bacon Melt
Now I have to add that you can have any sandwich heated. You tell them what you want on it and they will heat it for you.
I have had the Cheese Steak and a special of chicken and bacon that was outrageously good with a Southwest sauce on it. They put the chicken and bacon on the bread, heat it up and then add on cool toppings and sauces.
Inside the glass counter are the toppings with a selection of many items like lettuce, tomatoes, green peppers, hot peppers, onions, cheese, pickles, olives and more.
Their selections of Sauces is good too with varied choices including Dijon Horseradish(one I particularly like) Sweet onion sauce, Chipotle Southwest sauce and Honey mustard sauce. There are others too. I like the different temperatures, tastes, and consistency.
I have never had any of their wraps but I can say that the fillings they use are excellent so you will get a good taste no matter what you put them in.
Subway also offers a few different salads.
Drinks are sold by the cup size and you fill them yourself. They use Pepsi products including Mountain Dew and Brisk Iced tea. Chips are also available and come with some of their specials. Lays brand chips are what they serve.
On your way out you can also get a treat of cookies. Look at the counter for Chocolate Chip, Macadamian Nut, and Oatmeal Raisin. These are soft with body to them. Tasty too.
The Subways I have been to generally have clean rest rooms.
Visa and Master Card are accepted at most Long Island Subways.
Blimpies / Quizno's / Subway / Roasty's Original This is now my favorite.
