Pros: Great yogurt and specialties
Cons: rude employees
Hi. My name is Michelle and I am addicted to TCBY yogurt! I'm beginning to wonder if they lace it with some highly addictive drug. I'm embarrassed to admit that I drive through the local shop about 3-4 times a week. I just can't seem to get enough of the stuff, and I have this great card that gets me 50 cents off a purchase of $1.50 or more. What a bargain!
Most of these locations are pretty much the same. They have the big display cases of special occasion cakes and pints or cups of yogurt right inside the door when you walk in. Just past the pre-made stuff is the display of ice cream. Most of these places seem to have just started carrying ice cream fairly recently. Just beyond the ice cream is the display of toppings and waffle cones. Behind the counter, you will find a couple of rude employees peering at you until you place your order and pay. There are usually a few tables, and many locations have a plant in the corner, although the plant is not always the norm. There are a few self-promotional pictures on the walls, but that isn't always the norm, either. Some locations have a drive-thru, and some are located inside a gas station, but most of the stores in this area are located in small shopping centers.
Yogurt and Ice Cream
TCBY offers Chocolate and Vanilla yogurt everyday. These flavors can also be swirled together for a nice chocolate-vanilla mix. Other flavors may vary day-to-day. Some other flavors available include White Chocolate Mousse, Peanut Butter, Raspberry, Strawberry Cheesecake, Boysenberry, Black Cherry, Mocha, Butter Pecan, and Butterscotch to name a few. Most of the yogurt is 96% fat free, while some is nonfat with no sugar added. You can get it plain or smothered in scrumptious toppings. Some of the yogurt toppers include cookie dough, m&ms, oreos, chopped nuts, chocolate chips, reese cups, bananas, gummy bears, hot fudge, hot caramel, and various wet berries. They also serve Mrs. Field's premium ice cream in various flavors. The yogurt and ice cream are available in a kiddie cup or small, medium, or large cups. The prices vary from about $1.25 to $2.50 for the cups.
There are many specialties at TCBY. They have the not-so-special Sundae, or smaller Sundette which comes with yogurt, hot fudge, nuts, and whipped cream. My personal favorite is the Parfait which comes with choice of 3 toppings and 2 types of yogurt layered throughout a tall cup. They also have pretty good waffle cones, although I don't think they're as good as they used to be. The waffle cones used to look like rolled up waffles, but now they just look like oversized sugar cones. They still taste pretty good, but they're better if they come in the "dipped" variety with chocolate and cookies or other sprinkles around the rim. They have Shivers that are made with yogurt and 1 topping blended together in a cup, as well as a few other blends that come in the form of a Chiller, Shake, or Fizz. They also have Supreme Sundaes with loads of toppings, Banana Splits, and Malts. The specialties are usually priced about $2.50 and up.
I've been eating TCBY for years, but I hadn't eaten one of their cakes until July 20th of this year, which was my birthday. My mom used to get a cake and ice cream for my birthday until she became a health nut and started baking the cakes with all fat-free ingredients and serving fat-free/no sugar added ice cream. Due to the many complaints she had from my dad, she decided to buy a cake, and I suggested TCBY because of the low-fat yogurt. It seemed like a great idea at the time, but my mom didn't order in advance, so she had to take what she could get. The icing and yogurt were good, but the cake turned out to be really dry. I was a little disappointed because I've had other ice cream cakes that were really good, and this one just didn't measure up.
I don't know what it is about TCBY, but they seem to hire some of the rudest, most hateful employees I have ever dealt with. I'm sure not all TCBY employees are rude, but the locations in my area (the hospitable South) employ mostly hateful girls who would rather cut your heart out with a spoon than offer a friendly greeting.
If you're into frozen yogurt or ice cream, I recommend TCBY 100 percent. There is such a variety of flavors and toppings that anyone can find something here. Some of the prices are a little high, and it would be cheaper to buy a gallon of low-fat ice cream, but one taste of this heavenly goodness, and you'll be begging for more!
