...That is if you can manage to get in line early. There are two things Canadians love the most. #1 Hockey and #2 Tim's! The Starbucks of Canada (although it won't leave your wallet crying!) they say and there are almost everywhere. They even have outlets at gas stations and even in the University of Alberta. So after a whole weekend of... erm studying (hope my parents don't read this!), a nice medium coffee at Tim's will sure give you the kick you need for the day. And while we're at it, we'll get some doughnuts, and soup later for lunch!
University of Alberta is in Edmonton. In the city of Edmonton there are also many locations to choose from. I don't usually go to the University outlet as it is always crowded. But one near where my sister lives is the best. All stores are usually nice, clean and have a warm atmosphere. When you get to the front, you are greeted by the (usually) nice staff member. Also some locations are conjoined to a Wendy's so if your craving a hamburger, you can just walk a few steps to the other side.
There are many things you can order. Food ranges from doughnuts (my favorite is the Boston Creme!), sandwiches, bagels, soup (and you can eat the bowl!), muffins and so on and on!. The food is always fresh and so good. You can order ice cappucino, pop, tea, juice and of course the coffee. This stuff is addicting. Always brewed fresh and it is the best. I prefer over Starbuck's anyday. And they serve it in a real mug if you want (unless your going). It is so good (and addicting) that there is an urban legend that there is nicotine in the coffee (if you want to see it go to http://www.snopes.com/food/ingredient/timhortons.asp) but this isn't true.
Another great reason to go to Tim's is the price. It isn't ridiculously expensive and portions sizes are very good. You can get a soup, sandwich, doughnut and coffee for about $6(Canadian) and this makes me very full. Not only that, if you get a bread bowl, you can eat that after the soup! A large coffee goes for about $1.69 at my local outlet. And if you eat in, real utensils and no flimsy plastic forks and knives.
Tim's also support many comunities throughout Canada. They donate a lot into local hockey programs for the younger kids and camp programs for those who are less fortunate.
The only drag is the lines. At the University outlet, give yourself at least 15 minutes of waiting time in the mornings. And even the full chain store are very crowded. But if you wait it out, you will be very satisfied.
So if your ever in Canada, the trip isn't complete without a trip to Tim Hortons. Or then again you maybe one of the luckier Americans who have one in your town. And if neither, Tim's is planning to open stores throughout all the 50 states.
