Pros: Fresh food, tastes great, .99 menu, salads too!
Cons: Long lines at lunch!
Wendy's is another fast food burger chain that has over 6,000 locations across the United States. It was founded by Dave Thomas who wanted his burgers to be different, hence the creation of "square" hamburgers. That doesn't affect the taste any--just marks them as an "official" Wendy's burger! Dave Thomas also felt that a business needs to give something back to the customers so Wendy's promises to deliver on quality products, fresh tastes, and treating the customers right. This is the foundation for Wendy's policy of never cutting corners!
Dining & The Menu
Wendy's has both a drive-thru service and an informal dining room. The locations in and around Baton Rouge are for the most part clean and provide friendly service. The food is good and different from the ordinary McDonalds or Burger King hamburger and fries.
What Does Wendy's Serve?
Wendy's mainly serves hamburgers of course, but they also have a big and juicy chicken sandwich. This is available grilled, fried or spicy. In addition to their old fashioned hamburgers, they frequently have limited time offers of specialties such as Mushroom burgers, Swiss burgers, Frescata burgers and more. You can also get your favorite sandwich in a Combo Meal with a soft drink and french fries for around $5-6.00.
Side Orders is one of my favorite things at Wendy's and many are included in their $.99 Menu which I will discuss in more detail in just a bit. The baked potatoes with toppings are one of my favorite items at Wendy's. They offer a Sour Cream & Chives potato for $.99, Broccoli & Cheese topped potato for $1.99, and a Bacon & Cheese potato. An item that you will not find at other fast food places is Chilli, which is quite tasty and a wintertime favorite! They also have french fries, garden salad, Ceasar salad, and Frostys for dessert.
You can also purchase full size salads at Wendy's if you prefer a lighter meal. They offer a Garden Salad, Mexican Salad, Southwestern Salad and a Chef's Salad all for $4.99 each or less.
Wendy's also offers Kid's Meals with prizes similar to the McDonald's Happy Meals.
The $.99 Menu is varied and carries more items than other competitors. You can get any of the following off of this menu:
Deluxe Cheeseburger- fully dressed
Double Stacked Buger- two patties (limited time only)
Sour Cream & Chives Baked Potato
Small Side Garden Salad
Small Ceasar Salad
Medium French Fries
Medium Soft Drink
5 Pc. Chicken Nuggets
My Thoughts On Wendy's
When given a choice of choosing Wendy's over McDonalds or Burger King, 9 times out of 10 I will choose Wendy's. I think the food tastes better and of a better quality. They also have a nice variety of menu items that are affordable and comparative to other fast food places.
The dining areas are usually clean and neat in appearance and the staff friendly and helpful. You don't feel like a number in line when you visit Wendy's. In fact, when you are dining inside, you will sometimes be greeted by the manager walking around asking customers if they need anything and how they are enjoying their meal. You don't find this at the competitors! Wendy's really does offer friendly service!
That being said, there is one location (and it just happens to be closest to my home) that offers terrible service whether you go inside or through the drive thru. Orders are frequently wrong, the staff is rude and I now refuse to even go there.
Wendy's is a good choice for grabbing a hamburger or a salad for lunch or dinner. Kids love the Kid's Meals and older children dig the $.99 menu. I am pleased with the cleanliness of most of the dining rooms in our area and the service. Having only one bad location isn't that bad considering the number of locations here. If you are looking for a fresh, juicy SQUARE burger, Wendy's is your place! I give Wendy's 4.5 Stars.
