Fast food is the American way. Well, it doesn't have to be unhealthy anymore. Not only is Wendy's top notch fast food, it also provides many healthy options...Let me guide you through how to enjoy Wendy's and not increase your waistline (too much)
I eat at Wendy's one a week or once every two weeks. The menu has many choices that other fast food places do not have. The key to eating healthy in fast food is 1. Skip the cheese 2.Limit fried food 3. Make that a diet coke Now, if you are going to a fastf ood place for fun once in a blue moon, go nuts...eat all the cheese and fries you want. However, if you are watching your cholesterol, salt, and calories, like so many people are (or should be doing) then let me help you...
Here are in no particular order, healthy choices at Wendy's
1) Baked Potato plain Yeah, I know, how much fun is a plain potato? OK....but it is undeniably healthy. It is probably at least 300 calories less than medium fries and who gets a medium fries). Not to mention, a potato is free of the fat and grease that comes in the fries. I will say, I did once have a problem where the potato was undercooked, but that is rare. (Plus, there aren't many harmful bacteria that you can get in an undercooked potato so you won't be at tisk for an unplanned hospital admission...) If you must season your potato, you can
a)get the fixins on the side and use sparingly or
b)add in Chili
Which brings me to the 2nd recommended healthy item
2) Chili - Yes, chili, low in fat (especially compared to a burger. high in fiber because of those beans. Wendy's actually makes good chili! Add some to your potato to enhance the taste. You won't even miss those fries...
3) Grilled Chicken- The obvious choice. What isn't so obvious is the need to not eat the sauce that comes with it. This is a source of fat and calories. A safer bet is to add barbeque sauce or ketchup...
4)Triple Hamburger- Just kidding! Who can eat a triple hamburger? I always wondered...not to mention it costs like $6.00!
FINAL POINTS
-if you get a value meal, do not supersize...more fries means more fat and calories
-diet soda..not only at Wendy's but everyday...think how many calories you spend on regular soda. A biggie Coke is like 300 Calories.. a diet is 2. An easy decision
-Hold the cheese and may on all sandwiches!
-Look at the nutritional information poster in the store...it has a lot of hidden info which can make you an educated customer
-If you have high blood pressure, skip the fries. The salt on these things really isn't helping matters...
COMPARISON
Wendy's is unmatched by the other fastfood places. It is the one place where somebody can get a quick healthy meal without just getting a piece of bread with lettuce only. In my opinion, the diverse menu makes it tops
Enjoy!'
PS-There are many great nonhealthy items. I must admit the spicy chicken gets my recommendation...
