Add chili & cheese to just about ANYTHING!

Pros:Selection is broad, condiment heaven, good dessert, relatively fast, great value
Cons:cheese is not good, some items do not need chili, not the cleanest place.
The Bottom Line: Like this hot dog chain, definitely a great value and overall a nice fast food option. If you like adding chili & cheese - look no further!
Wienerschnitzel has been around for years, over 40 years to be exact. In 1961, John Galardi opened up a hot dog stand since then, there have been over 300 stores opened across the United States. Also there is a Wienerschnitzel in Guam now! Wienerschnitzel is now the Worlds Largest Hot Dog Chain, and supply over 100 million hotdogs to the masses each year.
So Hows The Food?
The food is usually covered with chili & cheese thats how it is! Haha Really the menu has more of a variety than you would expect, considering the fact that they call themselves the Worlds Largest Hot Dog Chain. Of course you can eat hot dogs, chili dogs, chili cheese dogs but also on the menu are corndogs, fries, chili fries, chili cheese fries, cheeseburgers, chili burgers, chili cheese burgers, chicken sandwiches, polish sandwiches & pastrami dogs/burgers/sandwiches. Not to mention that there are more than just burgers, there are deluxe burgers, deluxe cheeseburgers and deluxe bacon burgers.
Breakfast at a hot dog stand? Not much of a selection, but they do have a few items available for breakfast. Burritos, biscuits & French toast are served until 10:30AM at most stores. I personally have never tried the breakfast, so someone else will have to fill you in on that.
So the selection is obviously pretty broad compared to most hot dog chains but the taste is what most will be worried about. For one, the hot dog variations are good. Most of the time it seems like they more chili than they should. This makes it fairly messy. Too much chili is usually followed by too much cheese and the cheese seems to be a nacho cheese of some sort. I am not a fan of the cheese that they use, but the chili pretty much trumps it all in regards to flavor.
The burgers are mediocre, just your run-of-the-mill fast food patty and of course if you add the chili & cheese that is the majority of the flavor of the burger. The cheese is again a nacho flavored cheese that takes away from the burger if you ask me.
My favorite item available at Wienerschnitzel is the corndogs. I have always loved these guys since first trying Wienerschnitzel years ago. I normally will order something slathered in chili & cheese and then grab one of these guys as a side item.
The fries at Wienerschnitzel are nothing to write home about, however if you add chili & cheese (just like everything else) you can soup them up a bit. Does it make it better? Probably not, but it does give you something that other fast food chains dont offer.
What is the actual restaurant like?
I think restaurant is pushing it, but the sit down dining area is hit or miss for the most part. We have been when it was clean, sometimes you cant find a table that doesnt have chili or cheese spots here and there. I guess that is the risk you take when your restaurant tops any item on the menu with chili & cheese right? The bathrooms were about status quo in regards to fast food bathrooms, clean but not sparkly. Napkins on the floor but I suppose at any given time, any given restaurant it could be different.
How are the prices?
Cheap for the most part. If you stick to the main items on the menu; hot dogs, corn dogs, fries and such you can get out of there for less than 5 bucks. They have combo meals that provide a meal for a cheap price as well. If you go for the huge combo meals, like the one that has a chili cheese dog, chili cheese burger and chili cheese fries it gets pricier, but understandably. You cant beat the prices at Wienerschnitzel.
How is the service & speed?
The drive thru is normally rather speedy however I have been there before where it is slow. Hit or miss in this department as well, but for the most part it is still fast food. The service has its moments, as with any fast food restaurant you get some great people taking your order or serving your food and some that just DONT WANT TO BE THERE. I would say it isnt any different compared to any other place though.
Final Thoughts
Some of the Wienerschnitzels have the Tastee Freez ice cream available which makes the perfect finish to a dinner full of chili if you ask me. Whether it is an old fashioned sundae, soft serve cones, shakes or just a root beer float it all is awesome. Another thing you wouldnt expect to find at a hot dog chain.
The value is great at this chain, so dont be surprised when you are full and your pocket isnt empty in return. Something some chains cannot claim. Also the variety is pretty broad overall.
The food is good, but not great. Skip the cheese if you can, and some items just dont need chili on them so you can adjust it according to your taste.
The service is decent to fair, along with the environment and dining area.
One last thing is the marketing that Wienerschnitzel does. I love the antenna toppers, and the wiener dog races. The website is cool, lots of info and fun things that other sites just dont offer. If you have a minute definitely check it out.
