My friends and I used to get together and eat at Bennigan’s frequently. So frequently that I eventually grew tired of it. Several months ago, my husband and I were trying to decide on a place to eat, and we found ourselves at Bennigan’s. It had been a few years since I had eaten here, and I really wasn’t sure what to order.
Menu
When we were seated, I thought it was going to take a while to get our food because the waitress came to our table and handed us each a hard back novel. Then I realized it was just the menu. The menu has quite a variety of food and drinks. In fact, there was a separate menu inside with a large selection of beer, wine, and mixed drinks.
Appetizers
There is a wide selection of appetizers to choose from. Anything from quesadillas, mozzarella sticks, hot wings, potato skins, and so on. I personally like the hot wings. They are lighted breaded, and the sauce is just hot enough. They also have a sampler platter available with mozzarella sticks, potato skins, and hot wings. If you’re really hungry, this is ideal, but I think you should be able to choose your own 3 favorites.
Entrees
You can choose from several different salads, hamburgers, steaks, seafood, and other sandwiches. The prices are fairly moderate. There is one page with Irish platters to choose from. These are basically American entrees with Irish names. What I usually order is the Turkey O’Toole. This is simply a turkey sandwich on a pretzel roll.
The one sandwich that seems to stand out most is the Monte Cristo. This is basically a club sandwich that is breaded, fried, and sprinkled with powdered sugar. It comes with raspberry jelly on the side for dipping. This is an excellent sandwich, but I no longer order it because I can feel my arteries clogging as I eat it.
Kid’s Menu
Not a lot of selection here. Grilled cheese, mac and cheese, cheeseburger. I think I see a recurring theme. The kids meals are all priced around $3.50-$3.99, and come with fries, a drink, and a sugar cookie in the shape of a clover.
Desserts
Yes, there are several desserts to choose from also. Cheesecake, brownie pies, etc. Every dessert I have had here has been to die for.
Atmosphere
This restaurant is very similar to Applebee’s, Chili’s, and TGI Fridays. The bar is square, and located 2 steps up in the center of the restaurant. There are TVs on every corner facing into the bar. They usually show sports or news. It is decorated with the typical neon beer signs. There are some Irish related signs hanging up. I suppose this makes it an “Irish” restaurant. One corner has a canoe with oars. I’ve only been to the Bennigan’s in my town, but they probably all have their own unique decor. There is now a sign on the door that says you must be prepared to show your I.D. after 11:00 p.m. I suppose it becomes more of a bar scene at that time.
Eat here often?
When we first started eating here again, we received frequency cards. Every time we have an entree, they punch our cards with a little clover. On the fourth visit, we get a free brownie bottom pie. On the seventh visit, we get a free order of mozzarella sticks. On the eleventh visit, we get a free entree. This is a great deal if you eat here often. Of course, it is even better for Bennigan’s because I have found myself eating here more often so I can get my frequency card punched for free food.
Overall
Bennigan’s has good food at decent prices. It’s a good place to go with your family or a group of friends. I recommend it to any and everyone.
