Save time? Save money? Sign me up! That's the concept behind Sally Hansen's Complete Salon Manicure line. However, streamlining the basic 5 steps of a salon manicure: base, strengthener, growth treatment, color and top coat, into two applications of this one product isn't well executed. It boasts of great wear, plenty of shine and conditioning, and it's supposed to rival your most coveted salon brand. Rest easy OPI, there's no comparison.

If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is, but I was seduced by the fabulous medium toned, blue-gray shade. Very similar to Crayola Cadet Blue but dustier. If blue could be neutral, this shade is the best example I've seen.
I made sure my nails were properly prepared for the best possible application: cleaned, cuticles pushed back, all traces of nail polish removed and a swipe of alcohol over each nail for good measure. I wanted to provide Sally with every opportunity to succeed. It wasn't to be however. Although the unique design of the brush/applicator is a plus and really aided smooth application, the polish itself does not meet expectations. I needed three coats of polish to really build good coverage and the polish took forever to harden to a durable finish. In fact, it never really did cure and seemed just the slightest bit tacky endlessly which might explain why it looked so dull as well. I double checked to make sure it wasn't a matte polish and it isn't. It's just an inferior finish. Additionally, within hours my manicure looked about a week old.
Because I love the color so much, I have tried this polish several times. Maybe it was my technique, or lack of patience? I tried applying thinner coats, thicker coats, fewer, and more, but the end was always the same. The bottom line: Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure doesn't cure within a reasonable amount of time, doesn't look glossy, and it doesn't wear well. I won't ever bother using this for a manicure, but it's fine for painting my toes when wear isn't much of an issue. And, you can get away with a little more since it's not quite as easy to scrutinize a pedicure. At about $7.00 per bottle (or ANY price), I'd rather look for a similar color from a more reliable brand like OPI ($8.50)or Essie ($8.00), than purchase this product again. Can't recommend!
