Totally disappointed. The rave reviews I've read must be written by people that work for Sennheiser.

I just did a comparison test. These cx-300 vs my other Seinheisser PC-100 (over the ear) and my ipod in-ear set (not buds) that came with my video ipod.
Tested 3 songs in isolated room.
1) Amy Winehouse -Back to Black
2) Antony- If it be your will
3) Leonard Cohen - Hallelulah
A good range of music for vocal highs, lows, bass strings, etc.
I'm am not a technician so I didn't compare frequency response rates etc. I listened to portions of the songs--focused on the ranges of sound--and paused ipod and switched headsets. Of course my PC-100 ($59.95) had a richer rounder sound. I expected that so I'll focus on cx 300 vs apple set. I found that overall the Seinheissers were a little to harsh in the mid to high range. And actually the sound felt more clip there. Subtle, but I was expecting the Seinheissers to easily beat out Apple--but they did not. Although the sound output was greater with them (had to lower the volume to fairly compare with the Apple's) the overall enjoyment of sound or listening pleasure wasn't there--mostly due to some harsher, brighter sound. I guess there's some better "noise reduction" but it's not true noise reduction via frequency--it happens because the foam blocks any space in the ear canal. I read alot about bass response. I guess it responds--but too clipped. I'd rather have a rounder richer bass, like the pc-100's. So why did I buy the cx-300's? On sale for about $30. But I still may return them if the store will take them back. That's another thing--they come in a completely impossible to open clear plastic pack that can not be opened with a scissor. Even using tin snips it took me 10 mins to get out of the pack. After I totally destroyed the plastic to get at the ear buds.
So, if you like the ear-bud idea I think you can find better for the list price of $79. Don't pay it.
