There are those times in which you must have maximum control. During these times no inferior product will work. Does expensive mean better? No! In fact for holding that stage perfect up-do, for 12 hours plus, even after being exposed to misty conditions, got2b Spiked Up Max Control Styling Gel is superior. If you are in search of a hair gel that will firmly hold a style, rather spiky or sleek, I highly recommend trying Spiked Up Max Control Styling Gel. This gel also provides a nice option for creating defined sections of hair, accenting pieces, or gluing down stubborn strands. And although this gel offers exceptional hold, it washes out with shampoo, leaving no residual build-up.
If only I would've found this stuff months or better yet a year ago!
My daughter is a member of a competition dance troupe. Often, on the days of competition, her make-up and hair needs to hold stage presence readiness for up-wards of 12-hours. There are times when the hairstyle may vary, but usually it is parted on the side (sometimes a ziggy part) and pulled back, into a ponytail. The variance is usually via the hair that hangs from the back. So typically I use a firm holding gel, nearly gluing the top portion of the style into place. Importantly I don't want a tacky look and certainly it would be unacceptable to use a product that balls up, or becomes flaky. Early into this adventure it was obvious that Paul Mitchell Freeze and Shine Super Spray worked great for holding the finished style and adding sheen. But I wasn't overly pleased with the base products (gel or mousse) that I had been using. That was until I tried got2b Spiked Up Max Control Styling Gel.
At the same time that I purchased the got2b Full of Yourself Volumizing Gel 2 Mousse and the got2b In Control Hard Hold Hairspray, I decided to try this gel. I knew that another dance performance was nearing and needed more gel stock. As mentioned in other reviews, I was so pleased with the got2b shampoo and conditioner that I was excited to try more of the got 2 b product line.
This gel has been applied to wet and dry hair, and worked great with both conditions. After parting her hair, and combing with a fine tooth comb, I apply got2b Spiked Up Max Control Styling Gel. Next I use the fine tooth comb to distribute the gel, and finally my hands to sleek the look. Her hair is then put into an elastic fastener, in the back. Recently during a performance that mandated 8 costume changes, one of the requirements was splitting her hair into pigtails, for one number, and then back to the standard ponytail. Naturally a few strands of the front portion looked obviously 'messed with'. I simply wet my hands, rubbed them over the hair, which reactivated the gel and recreated the sleek look. On this particular day, Marisa was in costumes for 12 hours. Her hair held its style. We received a lot of compliments about her hair, how perfect it looked, and the gorgeous sheen.
We also allowed a child, who needed some defined spikes, to use this gel. The gel helped his mother form the needed spikes, and the style held up through dancing on stage and beyond.
My hair is thick, straight (without styling tools or chemical interference), and chemically treated via highlights. Personally I have used this gel to define chunks of sections, adding definition to the style. Also I have used got2b Spiked Up Max Control Styling Gel to 'stick' strands of hair into place.
It is important to realize that got2b Spiked Up Max Control Styling Gel is intended as a maximum control hair style product. This product is meant for those that want to shape their hair into a style and have it stay there. The first time I used this gel it brought back memories of those early days in Cosmetology school when I had to do umpteen finger-wave styles, for curriculum purpose. All those 'S' patterns, over the whole head... if they would have provided us with this gel versus the 'blue goo' the miserable task wouldn't had been nearly as bad.
Additionally my 12-year-old likes this gel for 'pasting' a few unruly strands into position. Maintaining perfectionism traits, she grows frustrated with those 'baby hairs' along her forehead and wants them to be firmly into the proper place. Use of this product holds those stubborn hairs into place all day.
Product Claim
- spike
- stiffen
- hold
" When we made this one, we had the extreme stylist in mind. Put simply, this gel holds hair. Stubborn, inflexible, tough - get the message?"
- Ideal to spike, stiffen and hold.
- A great styling tool to place and control all hair types.
Tidbits, Suggestive Use
This gel is sold in an 8.5oz clear plastic bottle, with a gray flip-lid. The gel itself is an aqua-blue color. My only complaint about this gel is that the bottle is hard plastic and slightly hard to dispense, if your hands are gel-ridden. A softer plastic would be most appreciated. Yet, this is a minor issue, not causing me to knock any points off the overall scoring of the gel.
When purchased locally the suggested retail is approximately $6.00, often right around $4.00. But recently I purchased this gel from Ulta.com for $2.74! This gel has a slight tropical scent that isn't overwhelming.
got2b is created by Advanced Research Laboratories, who also provides such lines as Citré Shine, Smooth 'N Shine, Thicker Fuller Hair, Herbal Logix, Clear Logix, Silver Brights, and Zero Frizz. This product line reminds me a lot of the professional line TIGI BedHead, available at licensed establishments. It is my opinion that the got2b line is marketed toward the teen | tween | young adult generation.
