| trekkie175's Full Review: America West Arena |
-STORY- Well it was my first basketball game, and what better to go see my favorite team, the Suns, with my dad. I went to Scottsdale over Spring Break just this April. My dad thought it would be fun to go see a Suns game during our stay. It was finally the night of the game. The Suns were battling the visiting Dallas Mavericks. The Suns beat the Mavericks 111-106, April 11, 2001. Me and my dad had a great time at the game. However, as I reflect to the experience I had at that game, I realized that there were some things that were great and other things America West Arena could do to improve the level of their place.
-THE POSITIVE SIDE-
-SURROUNDINGS- The surroundings at America West Arena are top-notch. From the beautiful, landscaped, outside you can tell that the arena is going to be equally as beautiful inside. The interior consists of 19,023 purple seats and a very colorful and vibrant scoreboard which is also very informative. Also the court down at the bottom is designed nice and bright, with the legendary, fiery, Suns logo slapped right in mid court. The surroundings really add to the whole experience of the game.
-COMFORTABLE SEATS- The seats at America West arena are nice and relaxing. These purple seats are not only nice to sit in but they are also very convinient. The seats include arm rests, and places to put your drink. They are designed to perfect specifications, so that you can withstand long periods of sitting without frequent stretching and getting up. You'll never want to get up they are so comfy.
-GREAT VIEWS- It doesn't matter if you are in the last row, or right at courtside, the views at America West Arena are outstanding. The arena is built in a slant so that people in the farthest rows can see the floor without straining their eyes that much. You'll never miss a minute of the action with the excellent views the arena provides.
-THE NEGATIVE SIDE-
-TICKET PRICES- This is an area that most people should be concerned with. Ticket pricing can run hefty at the arena. At the Suns game me and my dad went to, we had the last row. I mean i could have handled the last row if the price was reasonable, but it wasn't. For the last row it cost 72.00. I feel that me and my dad could of sat in better seats for that price. Thankfully, me and my dad left those seats and moved to closer, better seats. I also noticed that the people in the good seats were more of the upper-class type. Meaning that people like that would spend a good thousand on their seats. My advice when ordering the tickets is make sure you are getting what you pay for. Some of the people selling these tickets are sneaks, and they may try to overcharge you. I believe this may have been the case in me and my dad's situation.
-FOOD- Food was another thing that wasn't all that impressive. The arena has a lot of places to dine, but they were mainly just fast food places. The food selections at the food facilites weren't all that great. Usually what winds up happening is people have to settle for food, and really don't get the options to pick what they really want. I also noticed that the prices of the foods and drinks were rather high. For example, Me and my dad went to a McDonald's that the arena had, for a quick bite, and a drink. However when we got there we saw that a medium drink cost 3.79. Also the Quarter Pounders and Burgers were way over priced. I found it to be rediculous. A good tip is to just eat before you come to the arena. There are some nice restaurants in Phoenix that you can enjoy.
NAVIGATION THROUGH SEATS- This is another setback of the arena. You'll have to constantly get up before and during the game just to let people through the aisles. The reason being is because the rows of the seats were slammed together very closely to put as many people as possible in the arena. So things such as going to the bathroom, getting food, and other movements aren't recommended. I say take care of these things before the game, so that you won't have to go through the humongous effort of climbing over seats and people.
