I had the opportunity to attend the Penn State Wisconsin game on Nov 5 2005, my first 'big' college football game with several friends who are alumni, what can I say, simply awesome. If you have the chance to watch a game here, make it a priority to get there and do it.
When making the arrangements to go to a game, you must tailgate and it must be in an RV. We arrived in Happy Valley on Friday around 3:30 pm, set-up in the overnight RV parking and started a nonstop weekend long party, interrupted only by a few hours of downtime for sleep. The people there, both young and old, were fantastic, friendly, helpful and enjoying every minute of the campus wide party.
Friday evening was spent visiting the alumni's old watering holes and eating 'stickies' at the College diner until 3AM. Saturday was tailgating until 3pm. (And I must add, Penn State rightly deserves the crown as the greatest tailgating experience in the country, both pro or college, the number of cars and volume of people is something that must be seen to be believed.)
Kickoff was at 3:30, with a student 'white-out' in effect. The energy at the stadium from both the student and alumni sections was at a fever pitch from start to finish, enough to almost make a person blackout, and the 3 hour game felt like it lasted about 15 minutes.
After the game, back to the RV for a bite to eat, then it was time to head out again to enjoy more nightlife at the campus bars until 2 AM. We packed up and left Sunday morning, exhausted and happy.
