Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at Florida Field is affectionately known as the swamp. With a new capacity close to 90,000 an additional 4 to 5 thousand fans can help rock the swamp. The stadium is situated in a corner of the University of Florida campus along side University Avenue.
The parking situation is rather lousy. The parking garages are usually filled up with the college students already so it is hard to find a spot in them. There are other less empty garages around campus but you can definitely expect a long walk on a Saturday morning.
Tickets prices are moderately priced and they are cheap for students. The seats are all bleacher style and there are few suites. Don't expect to be sitting too much as the students and a majority of the crowd stand for the entirety of the game. The number of suites have doubled with the expansion project. The press box has also been doubled. The project was a $50 million dollar overhaul with all University money.
The food offerings are average at best. Large chains such as Krispy Kreme and Papa John's have contracts with the University. The prices are average and could be considered expensive for a college game but what can you do about it?
The best feature of the "Swamp" is not something like a pool, luxurious seats, or a expensive scoreboard. The best part is the crowd's passion and noise that they emit. You can't beat the knowledge and crowd noise of the Gator fans.
After the game you have many options. Bars are strewn along University Ave. Also there are many options on the close by Archer road. For those not into the bar scene there are great restaurants around and fast food chains.
