| POOKIEJONES's Full Review: Cinergy Stadium |
I have grown up in nearby Northern Kentucky and have been in Riverfront; now Cinergy Stadium many times. I can tell you, first hand, that the stadium adds nothing to the quality of play on the field.
The field is a fish bowl with some grass and dirt placed in it. Thankfully, this year the Reds were finally allowed to remove the old, boring artificial turf and place a real grass field inside the fish bowl. The field, aesthetically, has improved 100 percent but this does not make up for the boring surroundings and out-of-date facility. There is absolutely no atmosphere inside the stadium and there is nothing that makes make Cinergy field stand out.
This year the stadium has changed since the Reds will be playing in a new park in 2003. They have begun tearing down the field they presently play in and this makes for some interesting views. About Fifteen thousand seats have been removed from the center field area. This allows you to see more of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky while watching the game. I have yet to decide if this new view makes the stadium more interesting or if it just a distraction of why you came to the field and that is to see a professional baseball game.
There are plenty of positives for Cinergy Stadium. Parking is very plentiful and ranges in price from $5.00 to $10.00 dollars. Getting in and out of the stadium is a breeze. There are many entrances and exits and traffic is a little more congested this year with the new construction but it is very tolerable.
Also, The ticket prices are very reasonable when comparing them to the remainder of the league. You can buy "Top Six" tickets (Seating is in the top six rows of the upper deck) for $5.00. Attendance is typically small enough that you can find a seat elsewhere which is closer to the playing field! There is not a bad seat in the house. This is not a very large stadium and a good view of the field can be found anywhere.
I have also been to the Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox Stadiums and leaving these parks made me wonder where the Cincinnati Reds had gone wrong. The atmosphere, aesthetics, and food were just that much better than at Cinergy Field. The surroundings just bring the game to life much better when you can enjoy all the distractions at the game.
I will always be a Reds fan and will always go see them play. I recommend that anyone who has a chance to go see a major league baseball game, to take advantage of this and for this reason only; I am recommending you go to Cinergy Stadium. I can't wait for the new ballpark!
