| rockhopper46038's Full Review: Conseco Fieldhouse |
The new Conseco Fieldhouse is a very nice structure aesthetically, and the sightlines inside are well laid out. The location of the arena is right downtown within walking distance of all the nightime activities, restaurants and bars. I've been to a number of events in this structure and have been well pleased with the provided amenities such as food choices, restrooms, ATM's and the overall decor. There are many more choices than the standard hot dog, nachos and beer, although they can be had as well. There is a large Starbuck's right at the entrance to the arena, and several small bakery stands, cocktail bars, and deli stands (with GOOD deli sandwiches). Friends of mine with club level tickets are very satisfied with the layout and arrangement of that seating level. Waiters will take your order in that section and bring your food and drink to your seat...a nice perk. I have had floor level seats and nosebleed seats and haven't had any problem with obstructed viewing in any location. So, the Conseco Fieldhouse seems to be a very good Sporting venue, and that I would not debate, but...
It is NOT a very good concert venue, unless you are sitting in the lower level. The sound quality on the top level suffers tremendously, especially on bass heavy pieces. A terrible reverberation forms that makes it almost impossible to recognize some songs. Strangely enough, voices don't suffer very much, and the high treble ranges seem okay as well. It could be all the glass used in the building. Anyway, I attended a Billy Joel concert at the Fieldhouse, and although the concert overall was very, very good, I think someone tipped Billy off to a potential problem because after trying an early cut (I can't remember the song, probably because I couldn't recognize it) he stuck to more piano solos and voice weighted song for the rest of the concert, with the notable exception of "Goodnight Saigon" which actually benefitted from the extraordinary reverb.
My advice is this...if you plan to attend a concert at the Fieldhouse, and it's someone you really have been waiting to see, you really ought to spend a few more bucks to ensure that you're in the lower level. I walked down several times during the show to verify that there was a big difference for different types of songs because I had been tipped off to the potential problem and wanted to be able to give my friends the accurate scoop, and I feel this is worth telling people about.
