| Flobyn's Full Review: Ericsson Stadium |
I had the opportunity to attend all NFL games hosted at Ericsson Stadium in both 1998 and 1999. Upon my first visit, I shuddered with awe at the beauty this stadium holds!
When entering the stadium from any gate, you are greeted by two huge bronze panther statues that seem to be glaring and snarling at YOU. Regardless of crowd, you enter the stadium in minutes, as there are three main gates with 10-15 "lines" at each gate.
It is very modern, very clean, and when I say there isn't a bad seat in the house, there ISN'T! I have sat in both the upper bowl and lower bowl, as well as on either side or endzone. All views are terrific! The big screens on the scoreboards of either endzone help with the shots that might be on the opposite side from you.
If I had to complain about the stadium, I would have to mention the "rules." Ericsson Stadium does not allow banners to be hung; it does not allow alcohol serving after third quarter of an NFL game; you MUST wear a shirt at all times; you must sit down if others are complaining that you are standing too much or you will be ejected from the stadium.
I guess the football fan in me detests these rules (and there are more), but the stadium itself has to be in the top five for appearance and cleanliness.
Parking is never a problem, as the stadium is located in a central part of downtown Charlotte, NC. There are plenty of places to park within reasonable distance at quite decent prices! Getting tickets for games isn't hard to find, as scalpers cannot exceed (I think) $3 above face value. Multiple tickets can almost always be purchased from scalpers (with the exception of a high-profile game). Example: Carolina VS Miami 1998...the Panthers had never played Miami, and because the Panthers are such a new team, most people had never seen Dan Marino play in person. I did not find ONE scalper at that game!
Ericsson is located very conveniently off two major interstates (I-77 and I-85); I recommend this stadium for an NFL game without question, and I'm sure a concert would be just as much fun, if not more!
