| boardercms's Full Review: FedEx Field |
Remembering the days of RFK Stadium in downtown Washington DC brings back good memories. However, the Washington Redskins' new stadium Fedex Field (formerly known as Jack Kent Cooke Stadium) adds a different flavor to Washington football.
One of the most noticeable things about Fedex field is the extremely high prices on everything from food, to a tickets. Characteristic of a lot of Washington Venues, everything at Fedex field is expensive. Tickets usually range from 85-200 dollars for one seat. Likewise, a plain hamburger can cost up to eight dollars.
Another thing that is distinctly different from what washington fans are generally used to is the location of the stadium. Fedex Field is located in Landover, Maryland about a half an hour away from DC. (traffic permitting) Unlike the days at RFK stadium in the heart of DC, Fedex Field is really hard to get to. If you dont want to go through the hassle of driving, paying, parking, and walking, and you would much rather take public transportation, you are out of luck. From most areas in DC, it takes about two hours to get to Fedex using public transportation. This includes traveling on a subway, (or 2 depending on where you live) then taking 2 buses. However, if you do indeed decide to drive, Parking is much more manageable than years past at RFK. The fact that Fedex Field is in the middle of nowhere, there are surrounding parking lots, in addition to the parking lots of a massive church, and the parking lots of the USAIR Arena, former home of the Washington Capitals, and Washington Wizards. Nevertheless, traffic will slow you down on your commute both to and from Fedex. So start early.
The stadium itself is spectacular. The field is one of the nicest fields I have seen, unlike at RFK or Veterans' stadium in Philadelphia. In addition to the field, the stadium compliments the fans with comfortable seating and, if you are in the club section, waiters, and air-conditioned and nicely furnished waiting areas.
Another nice thing about Fedex Field is the tailgating oppurtunities that have arisen. As I mentioned before, Parking is never a problem. Therefore, due to the massive amount of available parking, you are almost certain to see hundreds of people tailgating without any problems.
All in all, Fedex Field in Landover Maryland is one of the nicer stadiums on the east coast despite the prices, and bad location.
