I'm an avid hockey fan in the tri-state area and often go to Madison Square Garden, Continental Arena & the First Union Center. Once you've been to the garden and continental you will really appreciate the First Union Center. I agree with some of the other epinions on parking and such. There is plenty of parking for the arena, what you have to be careful about is when there is something going on at the Vet or Spectrum. This is what leads to a lack of parking.
Get there early and avoid Broadstreet, try Front st. to Pack. The Hot Roast Beef sandwiches are excellent with the horseradish (HOT!). Cheese steaks are in the building but you have to know where to go. There are only two stands on the lower level and the front and rear main entrances that sell them and you can not get them via waitress service in the club suites.
Ahhh....the club suites. Very nice if you have the opportunity. There is the base with a bar and waitress service that you share with the other people in your reserved section. There is still a charge for food & bev in this area. Upstairs in the super box you have your own box to yourself and food and beverage is unlimited.
The FU center also has the Victors club restaurant and lounge overlooking the ice and and cigar bar as well.
I ALMOST FORGOT! The brew-pub. Yes it has a brew pub, with great beer, better than what the vendors will be selling!
You will not find a nicer arena, the only other one out there is the MCI center which is the same design.
Prices are typical for any arena, $5/beer, $3/fries, $4.50 for the roast beef, etc.
All in all, this is one of the most well kept and state of the art arena with additional things like air-hockey,walk in shops, and TV studios that you really have to see.
So go see some hockey have a cheese-steak if you can find one and have a brew!
