| psufan0066's Full Review: First Union Center |
The first union center, ahh it's so much nicer than the Spectrum. I'll start off by saying that my seats were the last row in section 209 (row 15 seat #12). So you guys know I'm not making this review up.
Pros:
Despite sitting in the "nose" bleed section I could see the game clearly. I could clearly see all the missed lay-up's by both the Knicks and the Sixers. (I was sort of glad I was not closer to the court to watch the horrible shooting!) The seats themselves were very comfortable, for my tastes they could have been a bit wider. I sat next to a larger man and I myself push 225 lbs. (so I'm too light myself). But from the "worst" seats in the house I could enjoy the game.
The stadium was very clean! Bathrooms looked good inside and trash was not an apparent distraction while walking around.
A big criticism of Philly fans (And as a Philly fan I believe it's true) is that they are rude and psycho. Well the NY Knicks are a rival team and my friend who was along with me wore (hang on to your seats) a NYK hat and a NY Giants hat. I thought for sure he would be harassed by every Philly fan in the stadium. To my surprise only a handful of people said anything about his jersey and hat. To go into a Philly stadium and not get "Beat" up like everyone in the US thinks shows that this stereotype is for the most part false. You may verbally hear a few words from Philly fans but if you don't say anything back you'll be fine. The only vulgar thing chanted was at the end of the game, "NY s****" and that was not very loud. Another thing was the crowd booed the 3 girls that were with us in a Karaoke contest. Other than that the crowd was very much into the game.
The game was bad for the first half of the game, but since it was a close bad game the ending was filled with excitement which pumped up the crowd! This is something that separates Philly from many cities, the fans are always in the game whether it be booing loudly or cheering loudly.
Thou I am not old enough to drink, my father enjoys the different type of beer you can buy from the stadium. The Red Bell Brewery has its own vats inside the arena. The prices may be a bit steep but for good beer you can't beat it. Yes I know I'm not of legal age to drink, this is my dad's part of the review.
Cons:
In every Pro event the prices are always too high! I paid $27 for the worst seats in the house. I can go to a local Valley Dawgs game and see them miss lay-ups for about $20 less per ticket and get a better seat.
Food prices are terrible! $3.50 for a hot dog! I got the supreme nachos (whatever they are called) for $4.50, they weren't too bad. They were filling so I can't complain there. I did have a "Philly" Cheese Steak last year for $5.75 and it was terrible, the cheese steaks inside the stadium are not Philly quality Cheese Steaks!
Another complaint of any Sixers game is they can't shoot the ball! I know I'm reviewing the stadium but the shooting by the Sixers is horrible! Other than that the game was fast passed and fun to watch. (Until DC shot his usual 3's)
My final complaint would be that getting out of the arena was a bit tight. The escalator was a mad dash through a huge crowd. There are other side exits but I didn't want to get lost so I waited the extra 5-10 mins to go out the way I came in.
