If you're a sports fan in Boston, you know what I mean when I say there is nothing that can compare to the Garden. It lived through the Celtics dynasty and through the Golden years of the Big Bad Bruins. The Garden wasn't the cleanest or even nicest place to be, but it had an aura about it that can't be explained - it was the Garden. Ear-popping noise, great games, and great fans. It lived through Larry Bird, Bobby Orr, Gerry Cheevers, and Phil Esposito among many others. But I think the only way you can look at the Fleet Center is as a new arena, not the "New Garden", because you can't compare anything to the Garden.
The Fleet Center offers great seating throughout. If you're sitting in the very last row of the balcony, you might get a nosebleed, but it's still a great view and you will be able to see every second of action going on. The main setback is the pricing. Seats can go for upwards of $100 a piece for the best seats, and balcony seats will still burn a hole in your pocket. But for the true sports fans of Boston, it's something we just deal with.
Also, the noise level is not nearly as loud as the Garden. When a goal was scored in the Garden, you'd feel a chill go down your back. Every person in the place was on their feet, cheering as loud as possible. And since it was so small, it got incredibly loud. Only once have I heard the Fleet Center even comparably loud. It was during a Bruins playoff game last year, and it brought back the memories of the Garden. But like I said, if you try to compare any arena to the Garden, you're going to hate it.
The food is also high quality, but expensive. You can pick up a dog and soda, or go to one of the restaurants and have a sit down meal. Or if you're sitting in Premium Seating, you can have the waiter bring you your food.
All in all, the Fleet Center is a quality arena. The view is good from every seat, and it is clean and friendly. For the sports fan who loves the game, this is the place to be. But don't expect it to be the Garden, because you'll be disappointed.
