I happen to have lived in Vancouver, Canada the last 30 years so this may be a slightly biased opinion :) GM Place has been a great addition to Vancouver's sports attractions replacing a very old arena at the PNE playgrounds located 30 minutes away from the central downtown area. Almost 5 years old now, GM Place is located in Vancouver's downtown area and is about a 15 minute walk from the financial, shopping and hotel district of the downtown core. It is also a footstep away from the rapid transit system which links to most major areas of the city. GM Place hosts Vancouver's NBA basketball team, the Vancouver Grizzlies (Shareef Abdul Raheem, Big Country, Mike Bibby, Michael Dickerson, Othella Harrington and many other up and coming stars...hehehe). GM Place is also the home of the NHL's Vancouver Canucks (Felix Potvin, Mark Messier). Lastly, GM Place is alway a regular stop for music artist and the WWF wrestling.
GM Place layout as well as seating arrangement is excellent compared to many other stadiums. Having a seating capacity of approximately 18,000, there are very few other stadiums that can truly say there is not a bad seat in the house. I have sat in the top row and have seen all the action in clear view as well as still have recognition of who the players were. It is hard to explain but you have to be there to see that no matter where you sit, you can see all the court or ice action.
The sound system is excellent and is much awaited compared to the old stadium which echoed and not very clear. I have watched 2 concerts there and the sound is very clear and good bass for the dance music.
There is a big video screen up top for all the instant replays and scoreboard stats.
The layout of the stadium is very unique. Up top are the private club boxes where up to 10 people can watch the game on closed circuit tv's and eat tons of food. Below the private club boxes are the Reds (only $13 for the upper level for NBA games). Below the reds are another row of club boxes and broadcast booths. There is also a row of advertising banners that change throughout the night. Then there is the Blue Section (ticket $$ are more expensive for this area) but are very well worth it.
The food at GM Place is good and has a couple of local food chain outlets present (including Starbucks Coffee, White Spot Burgers and the typical beer, burger and hotdog joints). Food is very expensive with hotdogs around $3, sodapop for $3 and burger/fries for about $8.
The seats are comfortable and the amount of leg room is fair. When sitting on the upper levels, the staff are quite nice and allow you to move down to get better seats. This is also true for the lower levels depending on who the staff member is.
GM Place is a great stadium for sports, concerts and other things like autoshows, wresting and whatever. The basketball fans are the greatest and have lots of patience for a young and growing team...they always have a good time. The hockey fans are different and will get on the team when they are not doing well...that's cause the hockey team has sucked in the last 5 years.
