$300--that’s my modest estimate of attending a Knicks game for a family of four. The world’s most famous arena is also most likely the world’s most expensive arena.
Here is the breakdown:
Ticket--$50+ticketmaster charges=$60 (300 level--4 levels up from the floor)
Food--about $10 ( a basic sandwich and fries+ coke)
-------------------
Total= $70. Multiply this by 4 and you get $280. Plus parking--$20.
-------------------
Grand total= $300.
This doesn’t include souvenirs (a T-shirt or a cap), game program, and beer, which makes $300 a good estimate, even if you decide to get slightly cheaper tickets next to the roof.
Oh, by the way, good luck getting tickets. Every Knicks’ game is a sellout, and it’s been like that for many years. Just an FYI: more than 80% (probably close to 90%) of all seats are either reserved for the season ticketholders or given to numerous businesses. What’s more, the remaining 10-20% of seats are 300-400 level seats (4-5 levels up from the floor). This means that if you spontaneously decide to attend the Knicks’ game, you have very little chance of getting tickets, not to mention good tickets. You can try the ticketmaster, but it’s difficult to get 1 ticket through it, forget about 4 in a row. Your best bet is to go to the box office on the day of the game. Sometimes, the box office “throws out” very limited number of tickets on sale just before the game. Scalpers, who ambush the MSG from every corner, is your last resort, though a dangerous one. Many of the tickets they sell are counterfeit, so be very careful.
But other than being expensive and almost insurmountable in ticket availability, Madison Square Garden is truly a great place to watch any sports event. And you’ll likely to see a few celebrities on the big screen board. Too bad, you’ll be so high up that you won’t be able to see them directly with your own eyes. By the way, the court seats cost $1500. And I’m afraid you’ll need some connections to get them.
