I am a student at the University of Alabama and have traveled to Knoxville twice in the last four years to see the Tide take on the Vols. UT is in a great metro location and it's pretty easy to find something to do after the game. However, i was not impressed with the "beauty" of the campus. I have been to several college campuses and many have been very pleasant. UT, however, appeared to be very random and run-down. There aren't many nice spots to tailgate and i didn't notice any pregame activities on the campus. I expected more.
As far as the game atmosphere goes, I have never been so uncomfortable at a football game. My knees were pressed together and the two people i was beside had to lean forward because there was not enough space for our shoulders if we all sat straight up. I also had knees in my back from the people sitting behind me. You can see on the bleachers where the previous seat numbers have been erased and moved closer together several times. They call this their "seating adjustments." It seems it'd be better to concentrate more on QUALITY and COMFORT and not so much on QUANITY. They are apparently trying to see how many people they can cram into that place to try to be the largest, disreguarding the comfort of the fans. I also was not impressed with the quality of the structure itself. Although it is large, it's very cheaply built and pieced together from the expansions over the years and does not seem to be kept up very well. The noise, however, is very impressive and this is one place where the fan truly is the 12th man. It's just too bad the fans can't show a little class towards the visiting team and fans.
