Pros: Great atmosphere, The Fieldhouse
Cons: Expensive concessions and long lines
I start by stating that I'm not a Buffalo fan. I went with a group of friends(some of them were fans) just because I had never seen an NFL game before.
We got to the game pretty early. I think it was around 9:00AM. Even as we were driving in there were already people all over the places. On approaching the stadium I was surprised at all the cars with signs and flags etc. The fan spirit is pretty hard to miss.
Upon unloading our tailgating stuff we had several people stop by to visit. We had pretty much total freedom in the lot. The police were around but didn't care about drinking and/or glass bottles. Also your allowed to use charcoal BBQ's in the lot(and the even have dumpsters available for coal disposal). Most stadiums only allow propane because of people dumping their coals anywhere.
After a little bit of BBQ we walked around and had a look at a lot of the vendors that line the streets. There was a number of scalpers hanging around if you needed an extra ticket. The vendors had all kinds of Bills merchandise. Hats, shirts, flags, jackets etc etc etc.
After checking that out we headed to the Fieldhouse. The fieldhouse is the Bills indoor practice facility situated right beside the stadium. On game days(between 9am-1pm) you can get in for $5. Inside are a number of games to play(included with admission). Some of the games are catching footballs. Throwing footballs threw hoops etc. There was also free face painting and caricatures when we went. All in all it was worth the $5 and is a fun place for kids.
Gametime: The walk into the stadium was uneventful until I got to the seats. Once I got out of the tunnel and into the stadium it was truly a sight to see. I was really impressed with the look of the stadium.
The seats themselves weren't so bad. Not as crowded as I thought. It kind of sucked where I was sitting(top level under the jumbtron) because I couldn't see the scoreboard. It would be nice to see the score, down and yardage, scores around the league, as well as the replays on the screen.
The wait in the bathrooms wasn't bad at all. They were clean enough(what can you expect during a game when 10000 people may end up using a bathroom. They weren't disgusting dirty but there was a lot of trash on the floor.
The lines for the concessions were atrocious though. I left for the stand with a few minutes left in the second quarter. I didn't get back to my seat(with some rather disgusting and expensive nachos) until the start of the 4th quarter. So the wait was over an hour to get there wait in line and get back to the seat. If you eat in the parking lot there's no reason to have to get concessions. They are overpriced & not that great. Just wait for 3 hours and eat once you leave.
Overall I thought it was a good experience. As I said I'm no Bills fan but it was hard not to get caught up in the whole experience.
