Pros:the fans, close to subway, great place to watch baseball
Cons:parking, old, near La Guardia airport, food, dirty place outside
The Bottom Line: Shea Stadium is a great place for baseball and you'll have a fun time.
Shea Stadium is somewhat a historical ballpark when you compare it to today's ballpark. I would recommend the subway to get there or else if you're coming by car-COME EARLY or you'll have to park miles away. Also when you get to Shea it will be visible from far beside everything beside it will be a dump. You couldn't any dirtier in Queens. From outside Shea looks like a big tub of ice-cream. Inside is different. It's a great atmosphere and the fans totally love their team. Because occasionly there can be that bad apple in the big apple. Just ignore them or call security if their really bugging you. also be wary if you seat in the upper deck because sometimes there are people smoking some pretty heavy stuff up there.
Also the fact that Shea is like 5 minutes from La Guardia airport comes with the baggage of airplane noises. If you hate airplane noises, then don't go. But just like everyone else you'll get used to it by the 4th inning. Also the food pricing is riduclous. 4.50 for hot dog. Not good.
After the game, espically in the night, don't worry about getting mugged. That only happens after a Yankee night game. Queens is a much safer area in New York than the Bronx where the Yanks play.
