| mrsmashy's Full Review: Skyreach Centre |
To not see an Oilers' game at Skyreach Centre (nee Northlands Coliseum) would be a tragedy.
Admittedly, the game has changed over the past 20 years and players (and championships) have come and gone... Yet there's still a certain je-ne-sais-quoi about sitting in a building with such history, watching players skate down the fastest ice in the league.
(Now, on to the specifics about the building...)
The seats fairly decent, depending on where you sit. The lower-bowl seats have both seat and back-padding (installed in '94), while the upper-bowl seats do not have padding on the back (the seat-padding was redone at the beginning of '02, though).
Washrooms are typical of all stadiums... More than enough during the play, completely packed during an intermission.
The food is... well, stadium food. Take that for what it's worth. ;)
I wouldn't know about the parking situation; but access to Public Transit is as good as you're going to get (train and bus stations a couple stairwells away from the venue).
The ambiance in the building can be quite something. Anyone who's been to a playoff game in this building knows EXACTLY what I'm talking about... For those who haven't, you'll just have to go and see what I mean.
Oh, but don't forget to take a couple Advil before you go to bed. ;)
