| fnbrown's Full Review: Sun Devil Stadium |
The whole Arizona Cardinals stadium controversy that permeates the news here in the Valley of the Sun cracks me up. The Bidwills (owners of the Cardinals) perpetually whine about not having a decent park to play in. They complain that it's too hot for fans to come out and fill the stadium in the fall, and that they need a domed facility in order to be successful in the NFL.
What a load of baloney. The problem is that the Cardinals stink. They've stunk for years. They will stink for years to come. Until the Bidwills sell the team to owners that care about winning, they will always stink. That's why there's hardly ever a sellout at Sun Devil Stadium. Do you honestly think that die hard fans will pack a stadium like Lambeau Field in January, but not come out to Sun Devil Stadium in September? Give me a break... it's the team, stupid.
Sun Devil Stadium is comfortably nestled between two desert buttes, on the southern shore of the Salt River in Tempe, Arizona. The section of the river in Tempe, which had been dry for decades, has been dammed off and filled to make a nice stretch of a lake... it's really rather picturesque. The stadium is easy to get to from the freeway, and there is plenty of parking nearby. The interior amenities could use a little work - more improved food service and more bathrooms to start - but for a forty year old ballpark, it gets along just fine. The field is always well kept, and the views of the surrounding Arizona landscape are plenty to keep you occupied during another lousy performance by the Cardinals.
The best way to check out Sun Devil Stadium is to go to an ASU game there. The team is better, the crowd is more of a home crowd, and the ticket prices aren't as ridiculously high.
